You are correct on those locations. But against all the laws of downtown retail, the verb you're looking for with regard to City Place Coles is "is", not "was."

IIRC you could look down into Mr Greenjeans from the south end of the food court.

That was back when the theatre was still operational and the seats in the food court were fiberglass cylinder stools.

And before Jonathons it was "The Palm" in the same location

It was a cool place with great pizza. I remember that the toilets talked. Went there once with my family when I was around 12 years old, so 39 years ago? It was called Underground Pizza Works. 177 McDermot.

Good to hear. I will purposely go there this Saturday and buy a new book. Used to be an A&W right beside them.

Some of the priceless NIMBY opposition to the four storey apartment proposed for Provencher Boulevard....at Community Committee.

Rental units bring crime to the area.
Blocks the view of the cathedral for people across the street.
Too tall.
Angry about the loss of the parking spaces.

Omg. I thought this proposal was about as anodyne as it gets. Hope Allard does the right thing. So far he has impressed me.

People in Old St. B must be afraid of their own shadows.

In happier news, here's an interesting CBC article about the ongoing progress in the restoration of the Fortune and Macdonald Blocks on Main Street:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/fortune-macdonald-block-renovations-1.4487674

Apparently John Pollard is taking possession of the Winnipeg Hotel later this year, although based on his word choices with the reporter, it sounds like that building's future could be in doubt.

The article mentions the hotel that was previously planned for the site... this is, IIRC, the one that ended up being slated for Portage Ave. E. Has anyone heard anything about that project lately?

Unreal. St. B is literally full of rentals. Everywhere.

And loss of parking? Were people illegally parking on someone else's lot?

I assume the opposition didn't matter and the development is proceeding through to the next department at the City?

I assume they meant with a multi story building there means more people in the area -> more people parking on the streets -> less parking available.

Lolllll

Do these people know that not they, but the landowner, owns that land?

I'm in East St. Paul, and a multi-fam proposal is slated for just inside the perimter at an upper-middle price point, and some people are laughably concerned!

Anyone know what's going in between the Chamois Car Wash and Tim Horton's on St. James at Wellington?

Makes sense. But still, these people want to sit in their homes for the next hundred years with nothing changing. It will become a decrepit wasteland.
