Beautiful day for a walk in Calgary, first day of December and it is +6C, just one of the many reasons why I love this city:

Lot of construction going on in East Village:

New Central Library:

Telus Sky (note that you can actually see the building from this angle):

12th Street SE Bridge, set to open on Saturday:

Now this is a great example of public art:

Nice pics. Lots of cranes.

Yesterday I drove by the BOSA project as you go over the flyover on Edmonton Trail to get out of downtown. That site looks huge! When is that project scheduled for completion?

Is it me, or has that complex been under construction forever?

Just an FYI. Exif information is 100% unreliable, so Tineye.com isn't going to help.

Edit: upon downloading it the EXIF data is still intact. Taken January 18, 2006 on a Canon Powershot A70, although the time is 00:22, so since it definitely wasn't taken after midnight, take that date/time with a grain of salt.

For $200,000 you can get yourself a pretty decent one bedroom condo.

Currently there's about 62 active listings in the inner city for places under $200,000 on the MLS map.

The culture is a little different here than Vancouver. You don't find as many character areas, hipster bars and trendy restaurants. Also there are no whole foods or places to do yoga with your cat.

If you end up coming to Calgary make sure to check out the badlands east of the city.
LOL thankfully I'm not into yoga or Whole Foods.

Sorry to hear about your purchase. Timing these things is really difficult. But in the long-term you're bound to come out ahead.

Thanks. I also came across long-term plans to connect the airport to the system. But I'm assuming we're at least a decade away from seeing that eh? Maybe in the 2030's.

Yes I would say that's accurate although there are rumours that if Calgary gets the 2026 Winter Olympics the LRT to the Airport would be accelerated to have it done for that.

This is pretty cool! Like the article says, it brings people in to a building during the week that looks unwelcoming except on Sundays! And it allows people who would not normally attend church to enjoy the beauty of the building.

What I especially liked in the article was the photograph of the juxtaposition of the 100+ year old church against the glass of the modern skyscrapers! It is very beautiful! (I don’t know how to extract photos and paste them in my post so you will have to read the article to see which photo I am referring to.)

Don’t wanna interrupt this non construction talk with a construction update. The site has been cleared and fenced off to the east of University City. There was a blue drill/ pile driver in site this morning. Not sure what the name of the project.

17m to fix faulty truss at city hall

When it costs 17 million to fix a single truss installed wrong back in the 1980's it kind of puts into perspective how little this city actually spend on things like public art or footbridges.

There were a couple strands of non-construction discussion that were ongoing in this thread.

Shouldn't replacing this truss add $170,000 for new public art?

"Some evacuated residents of Kensington Manor considering legal action"

Some tenants evacuated from a Kensington apartment building last month over concerns about the building’s structural integrity are considering legal action.

Around 125 residents were forced to hastily evacuate — some with just minutes notice — on Nov. 24, after engineers discovered structural issues with the seven-storey building on 10 Street N.W.

City officials confirmed Monday that tenants will be permitted to return briefly to their units starting Dec. 6 to remove their belongings after work was completed to shore up and stabilize parts of the building.

Tenants have had their damage deposits returned to them and some say they have been offered a $250 cheque in addition to a partial refund of their November rent.

But some residents who attended a meeting hosted by the Renters Action Movement on Sunday night expressed frustration with the response from the building’s property managers.

“Tenants have had a really difficult time getting in touch with the property company that owns the building,” said Kate Jacobson, a spokesperson for Renters Action Movement.

“A lot of people are really feeling that they’re being left in this void and they don’t know really who to contact or who to go to.”

Perhaps I’ll do a photo update soon of all the development going on in Seton and Westman Village. It’s crazy what’s being built.
