Awesome update of Telus Sky. I almost didn't find it, but it was worth it in the end.

Hey guys. I'm a total noob when it comes to Downtown Calgary. Trying to see what's what when it comes to downtown, but I'm having a hard time looking stuff up. Basically I need a quick run down on a few things:

1) Are there new LRT lines being built in the city? Or just station upgrades? What's the name of the new line?

2) What are the different areas of Downtown? For example in Vancouver you have Coal Harbour, Yaletown etc... I'm trying to figure out where downtown Calgary begins and where it ends. I'm assuming East Village is one end of downtown

3) According to Google Maps, it takes over half an hour to get to U of C from downtown Calgary with the LRT. But with a bicycle the trip only take 20 something minutes!!!!!! Why?

EDIT: never mind. I don't know where I saw 20 something minutes. They're both 31-33 minutes.

4) Is it correct to assume that Calgary is in a buyer's market right now? Let's take a condo listed at 300k in Downtown Calgary. How much can a buyer realistically knock off the list price today? I know this is an odd question, but coming from Vancouver I have a hard time imagining what a buyer's market looks like.

Yeah, there's an over supply in Condos right now. I shit the bed and bought my place mid-2014 at the peak of the market.

For $200,000 you can get yourself a pretty decent one bedroom condo.

Currently there's about 62 active listings in the inner city for places under $200,000 on the MLS map.

The culture is a little different here than Vancouver. You don't find as many character areas, hipster bars and trendy restaurants. Also there are no whole foods or places to do yoga with your cat.

If you end up coming to Calgary make sure to check out the badlands east of the city.

It depends where you are going from. As an example, from the 7th ave @ 7th st LRT station (stop 6825) in downtown to the university LRT station (stop 6816), it only takes 12 minutes. Another consideration when comparing to biking, is that it is uphill in sections (may not matter to avid cyclists, but will make a time difference for others).

Really happy that Calgary's university is on an LRT line!

The new line is called the "Green Line" running from north central through downtown and to the far SE. Construction is slated to begin in 2019 and the line to open in 2026.

Station upgrades were recently done that included extending platforms to permit 4-car trains.

Check out the "Transportation & Infrastructure" threads in the Calgary section of this website.

Great day for a walk through East Village and Inglewood. Lots of activity in East Village, 4 cranes plus the new central library. Can’t wait to see this area finished.

One of the churches in the inner city is taking out pews and installing a coffee shop at the back - open to the prayer space. It is a micro-implementation of mix-use I suppose.

It's not a new tower. There used to be a tower on that location and it was demoed last year.
