This is all fine and good until Amazon's lease is up and they leave the mall with an empty space and build elsewhere.

Uniqlo probably opening in Guildford faster than having a decent store in downtown Vancouver. Sad...

A Daily Hive article recently indicated that a downtown Vancouver store would open in 2018, and that Montreal was in the works as well. Our source says that there is currently no confirmed downtown Vancouver location, and that Montreal is still several years out.

Cool. Guildford has so many empty spots, good to see it get something big.

Yes for sure! Was there the other day and was just thinking that something with a big draw needs to go in this spot. That will really liven up that area. Although I have to say that mall always seem to be pretty busy.

Well since hardly anyone went to sears and it's at the end of a long corridor I don't think it'll impact anything when it closes.

hopefully they redevelop sears and everything north of 104. Would be nice to see high density there, something I wish they did when they redid the south section a few years back

I thought I had read on the forum - years ago - that the Sears wing would be redeveloped.

Hopefully Ivanhoe Cambridge will retain some sizeable retail north of 104th and maybe even include an office tower, given the LRT proximity.

yeah, i think the corridor stores already suffer enough, it could get worse for them with no point of walking to anythiing down that end.

mentioned in the restaurant thread too, CaliBurger is opening at Guildford.

I've been looking to see if they've released any info and all I could find is what's already been done to the mall. The main part of the mall (south of 104th) was renovated fairly recently - I doubt they'll do much there aside from maybe building up the parking lots.

The walkway over 104th is their 'living wall' and apparently the largest one in N America so I doubt they'll do anything to hurt that. But the section north of 104 (which looks to only have Sears and a liquor store) - now that's ripe for redevelopment. I could easily see them putting in multiple towers. With all that surface parking it's comparable in size to the planned Georgetown development at King George and 102nd.

Yeah, probably a post in the Guildford thread a while back.

This article says they were to demolish part of the mall next to Sears in 2013.
That could be what I was thinking of.

dailyhive says Lindt chocolate is opening november 7 in the exchange building.

Retail insider says the MCarthur Glen outlet is expanding and will open in 2019.

Quote:
McArthurGlen Vancouver Outlets to Expand: Vancouver’s McArthurGlen Designer Outlets is going to be growing in size — the popular 243,000 square foot outlet shopping centre opened in the summer of 2015, and it’s planning to add a second phase with 78,000 square feet of retail space that is expected to open in the spring of 2019.
