As someone who frequents Goodlife Fitness at the Golden Mile, I question where people will be parking for any new shops opening up in the old Extra Foods spot.
There are generally 0-5% of the spots left around 5pm, as Superstore and Goodlife are busy. It's going to be a problem.

If the OneREIT brochure can be believed, there will be roughly additional 40 stalls available between the old Extra & Albert St, and parking along the north face of the old Extra (30 stalls) once the demolition is finished.
I say "if it can be believed" because the aerial photo render of the mall after renovations has the Broken Rack in the mall - not jutting out the back, as it now does. It appears to occupy space that (I believe) GoodLife is in. But when you go to the floorplan on page 2, Broken Rack is clearly still jutting out the back towards Parliament.

Yeah it appears they're going to remove the old sidewalk/landing of the Extra Foods and make the north building profile flush with the Goodlife & defunct Ardene, which would open up all that space for parking. I really hope they include signage saying "Parking for Dollarama only" or "Parking for Fatburger only" because people going to Goodlife are going to eat up those spots very quickly.
Also, there's TONS of parking around the Rack at 5pm. Goodlife patrons may need to start realizing that the front lot is for Superstore/businesses and not for them. The walk from the Rack doors through the mall to the interior Goodlife door is a very short one and is a god-send on those -40 days of winter. I'm surprised more people haven't started doing this yet.

I hope it's not another restaurant I hear rumours that Mr. Mikes in the east is likely not going to make it, and that the new Famoso up on Rochdale is also suffering. I think we may have hit max capacity.

News out of the St. Chad's/Canterbury Park development. Alair homes (a partner in the redevelopment of the school/church side of the building, along with Collab Construction) is applying to the city and heritage board to build their corporate head office on this piece of open land on the property.
Even Calgary & Edmonton are maaaaaasive longshots.
Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver are the only real contenders. Ottawa might get a glance because of its large pool of IT professionals, high tech firms, and proximity to Waterloo.
I guess I was wrong - sounds like Calgary is a strong contender for Amazon's HQ2...

Not because the NYT rules Canada out... simply because they chose not to make the effort to find the data necessary for their analysis This analysis essentially looked at the Canadian data the NYT was too lazy to dig up.
Sounds like any Canadian location is a long shot, though.

Are you sure they're planning to build there and not in side the old church? There has been a large unused space for sale in there for years.

Yeah, it's definitely a new build inside that dirt space. The plans were provided to the condo board of the attached condo development by Alair Homes for review.

If I'm not mistaken, every other Starbucks doesn't actually have it's own employees, but rather piggybacks off another business. Due to archaic union regulations in the city, Starbucks hasn't opened a Starbucks with Starbucks employees. This new one will be the first that employs it's own staff.
