Wascana Park is redeveloping the old tree nursery. From their crackbook page:

We've received great interest in one of our current projects, the Arboretum Park so here's some more information on it.
Construction crews have started work on transforming Wascana Centre's old tree nursery into an Arboretum park. The project which has been included in the past two Wascana Centre Master Plans, will be built along 23rd Avenue just east of Wascana Rehabilitation Centre.
The Arboretum will include a natural habitat marsh area to mitigate water issues as well as provide new pathways for the Centre. While there will be some tree & shrub remediation, the project provides a balance between creating pathways and preserving the beautiful older trees that are pertinent for the Arboretum.
The pathways and landscaping structure are designed to reflect the geometry of the historic trees, which are on a grid silmilar to the Saskatchewan prairie.
Among the species of trees that will be found in Arboretum Park are the American Linden, Black Walnut, Bur Oak, Ohio Buckeye and Colarado Spruce. Many of the majecstic trees in the area are over 50 years old.
The majority of the funding for the project has been raised by a grant received from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program along with Wascana Centre's/Regina Food Banks DIVAS in the Park and Summer Solstice Soiree fundraising events.
Substantial completion of the project should be done by mid-late August, weather permitting.

Imgur was awesome, it's recent been ruined as well, just not to the same level.

I heard a rumor long ago that some of this change was coming at the bequest/partial funding of Harvard and their desire to redevelop the Lakeshore site. Not sure if that's the case or not.

Not the right parcel to be tied into the Lakeshore redevelopment if you are meaning where the old IGA was. Tree nursery is staying.

BH's rumour may refer to the west side of Hillsdale (not inside the tree nursery)... it'd been a complete mess for years. It's obvious that Wascana Centre has made an effort to improve that strip over the past couple of years.

No the rumor is that they're going put paths through the nursery towards Harvard's potential development.

I mean it is insane that the nursery is located in the city. They should put it in a field and make the whole thing more park area.

It probably WAS the edge of the city when it was established.

I think that one was more for bedding plants and smaller trees/shrubs? The tree nursery labelled on the map has been there for quite some time.

Are you confusing the former Green Thumb on the north side of Assiniboine with a former Wascana Centre nursery?

I can't think of anywhere near the cemetery that could have been a Wascana Centre nursery... virtually none of the land in the area southeast of the RingRoad/Assiniboine is owned by Wascana... just a tiny chunk immediately to the south of the apartments between the Ring Road & the cemetery.

Saskatchewan franchise proposed for new soccer league
Representatives of the City of Regina are expected to hear a soccer pitch on Friday.

Discussions are to revolve around a proposed Saskatchewan team in the newly formed Canadian Premier League, which could begin play as early as 2018

It's the old City of Regina nursery south east of the cemetery.

Huge news on soccer. Would be a big gain at the stadium.

Wascana Centre actually includes the bike path south of Assiniboine Ave E but ends at Fleet Street. I had contacted the city about a broken bench a couple of years ago and they referred me to WCA as it was their bench.

And I think the greenhouses east of Riverside (across the flyover) was never a tree nursery. The over-wintering greenhouse is there. The two greenhouses closest the path are full of bedding plants in the spring. There's not much there for trees for replanting.

I do not see them building their own stadium. I see this a negotiating ploy. They will be at one of Mosaic, Griffiths or Gordie Howe, etc.

I agree. There is zero appetite for any public funds to go toward another stadium.

Capital Pointe is in the Leader Post again, laughably claiming weather was a problem and a cause in their delays.

According to Fortress excavation work is complete on the fifth and final level of the underground parkade. Once shoring of the bottom is complete concrete pouring will begin. The new timeline for the project to be finished is by spring 2019, rather than late 2018.

Wascana Centre includes the bike path on the west side of the Ring Road (Douglas Park side) south of Assiniboine, but on the east side of the Ring Road (Univ Park side), Wascana Centre ends on the south side of the cemetery (near the creek). It does not include the bike lane along Assiniboine. Its most northerly point in the area is at the end of Park St. next to the NB Ring Road off-ramp at Assiniboine.

Other than the tiny chunk mentioned above, the City (north shore of the creek) & Province (land south of the creek) own all of the Wascana land on the east side of the Ring Road. None of this is near Assiniboine.

You mean on the west side of the flyover, right?

FC Valencia in Regina

Here's a neat little video of downtown Regina, from the perspective of one of Europe's biggest soccer clubs (FC Valencia) on their recent visit to the city to play New York Cosmos at Mosaic Stadium.

That is actually a great video they posted....of course they would want to include a lot of "Canada" references, but the video makes Regina look quite cosmopolitan (and I am from Saskatoon!)

I heard from a fairly reliable source that an Olive Garden has been approved for the East End of Regina. Can anyone confirm this>?
