To take this even further - you can choose Bell mainline in Manitoba. You're right though, it's not the same as what BellMTS offers.

It's been more than a decade since Bell bought Alient on the east coast, and they're still using the BellAlient branding there.

I dont think Bell under-estimates the importance of the MTS Brand. its worth keeping, at least under those MTS customers are used to Bell.

SHAW was very aggressive while MTS was in a holding pattern during the transition. I think there are a lot of MTS customers who "have always been" MTS customers. Once you remove that, you remove a sense of loyalty and comfort.

I suspect that has a lot to do with the local competition. If someone else on the east coast is offering say, unlimited data, "BellAlient" can offer it without the folks on "Bell" in Ontario demanding it too. "Sorry, BellAlient is a different company."

With the only real competition in Manitoba being Rogers (and maybe Telus, for the moment) I'm guessing that the MTS unlimited data plans will soon be gone. And with them the BellMTS name.

But yes, loyalty alone may keep the MTS name around.

. Looking up at 175 Hargrave, LED downlighting has been added. Not sure when that happened...

^ Nice the more LED Lighting the better! Winnipeg downtown could look completely different with better lighting and it appears there has been some steps made towards that in the recent years.

Ha ha. Oops. Don't recall that.

Good point about about the intermediate name.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what they do with things like MTStv that is a completely different platform and delivery method than either of Bell's 2 cable options right now

Arena is completely lit up blue in the atrium now. Loving it - hope they mirror it outside.

Saskatoon is getting a new WTC building, are there any plans for something similar in Winnipeg?

Winnipeg WTC people have no cash. Looks like they reached an agreement to get the Saskatoon one built.

MTS TV actually uses the same platform as Bell's Fibe TV. They might be slightly different versions but fundamentally you could take a MTS box and put the Bell software on it and everything would work. I am told Fibe Alt TV uses the same backend processes as regular Fibe TV meaning MTS TV is really only different that the satellite service.

Keep in mind before the Allstream deal that drove Bell and MTS apart, MTS very much operated as a Bell subbrand in terms technology. Bell was even the supplier of MTS wireless handsets back in the CDMA days.

I thought Fibe had to be run on Fibreoptic cable, hence the name?

I remember my mom's first cell phone said Bell when you turned it on lol.

There is a lot of money being spent on the BellMTS branding if the intent was to drop MTS in a year. Although, MTS actually did a full rebranding last year when they were working to sell, so who knows.

I think the MTS name will stick around for awhile.

No fiber required for Fibe TV. I think Bell might be using that false requirement in Ontario but it is a straight up Mediaroom tv service, same as MTS Ultimate TV.

There was talk about a 15 - 18 floor World Trade Centre building to be near RBC Convention centre but nothing formal. It sadly might be many years away from being realized.
Interesting how Saskatoon can get one so much ahead of us having nearly triple the population here?

What exactly is a world trade centre? How does it generate revenue sufficient to build class A office space?
