Couldn't agree more emphatically. I hate this monstrosity and the location is ideal for the fabled Convention Center Hotel. The historic buildings on the other end of the block are beautiful long time staples of downtown, perpetually leased, and trafficked. Whereas this awful building kills street engagement on the southern end of the block. What poor, short sighted decision making.

I don't think he owns that. I do wish that whoever did would tear it down though. It is one of the most uninspiring buildings in Salt Lake

I can't wait until they tear down the Walker Center. Stupid old buildings ruining the city.

Very much so, you have one of the fastest growing areas in America, and due to the geography, is starting to run out of viable land. The Wasatch Front adds a new Draper (50k) in residents every single year.

Agree. As fun as it is to hear people whine all day about the Jazz or how they're sad Sugarhouse isn't as small or run down as it was 160 years ago, contributions like this are for the better.

What's hilarious about what you say is that it's those discussions that actually make this place active. This place is dead because major development news is dead here. I think people should post pictures and talk about whatever they feel is appropriate to talk about in a Salt Lake thread. Maybe then it'd have more than just a handful of posts over the last week or so.

You guys. I loved Denver. First. You can't even begin to compare. The way each city is growing is completely different because of the geographical features. I say it reminds me of LA. Speaking of which, They do have low rise wood construction apartments going up everywhere like in Los Angeles and Salt Lake. So Salt Lake is on track on that end. What I do miss is being on the East or west side and being able to see the entire valley so I'm happy to see that again. You don't get that easily here. Salt lake is going to be soo different because it is surrounded by mountains it's going to be a city like no other. I might not get to see it in my lifetime but all the bickering we get into about how unique or un-unique salt lake is, sounds trivial when you realize how unique it is destined to become. When you're not there you realize how different and beautiful and considerably well thought out it actually is. I love it out here in Denver as I'm hoping to move out here permanently but it's not like living in that valley. Oh...I will say..I like the way the Wasatch mountains are so close to the city

He has owned the cafe moles building, the BTG wine / oxford building, and the building on the corner for years. 1 or 2 of the building were owned as part of a partnership. He did not own the Naked Fish building or the ugly taller building. I believe the building that he recently got was the Naked Fish building. The taller building, I think was owned by Salt Lake last time I checked.

He had the operunity to buy the building on W Temple and 200 a couple of years ago when it was for sale... he didn't. Probably because of the high price of the property, and limited space. It was probably much more cost effective to get the Naked Fish. I'm sure salt lake will give him a hell of a deal on that last building if he had a nice development.

The "tall ugly one" is actually a gem, at the very least, it's an ugly duckling. But that is the old Dinwoodey Building, currently owned by zion's bank. I'd say it is historically significant. It was built before Utah became a state. Here's what it looked like when Utah became a state:
