Lost amid the fallout of last week's provincial budget, is that Saskatoon is expected to collect $209M over the next 11 years from the feds for transit.

This is huge news as the City embarks on designing the bus rapid transit system this year.

I knew that would garner some sort of comment along these lines haha.

Don't worry, they're still going to have great food too (the cocktails and donuts were just the unique features). It's the guys behind Congress and bar manager from Una who will be opening it.

The cocktails, although great, were priced very high. I think they missed their opportunity to be the new neighborhood gathering place. Although I don't work at the 220, I rarely see anyone from there enjoying lunch or even after work drinks here.

Hoping someone can take this space and realize its true potential.
I'm late on this, but *yes*. It was huge and echoing and chilly, not a good feel for a space in a cold climate. I went twice, and felt lost and neglected both times -- not that the service was bad, but the food was mediocre and the vibe spartan.

I heartily wish the doughnuts and cocktails place all the best.

Phenomenol news.

Both Regina and Saskatoon's greatest needs are transit so it's good to see the feds are investing in it.

I have to applaud Mayor Clark and Council for their leadership on this. We have no way of knowing for sure, but I get the impression that the private meeting they landed with Trudeau while he was in Saskatoon was quite persuasive in getting the Feds to change the funding formula to account for ridership and population, not just ridership. Saskatoon stood to receive exponentially less if that wasn't changed.

It's also not the sort of advocacy that I could see Atch having done were he still in office. The timing is great to have this Mayor and Council, and this federal government that's interested in funding the kinds of infrastructure that they are.

Yes Echoes maybe Clarke will be smart enough to get a bus route across the new bridge to industrial area. With old Hitachi plant opening back up there will be more vehicles on the road in that part of town.

Nah, they can keep the HQ in Regina but Saskatoon makes a nice branch office.
And pretty sure the Semple's just use their private jet when they need to fly south!

Saskatoon's Projected Growth Map has been updated as of March 23, 2017. See map here.

The map indicates a BRT Transit Corridor (Red Line): Blairmore/University Heights/Holmwood. The map also indicates a High Frequency Corridor (Blue Line): Lawson/Nutana.

Not sure why the Blue Line doesn't extend into Stonebridge. Budget constraints, perhaps?

At any rate, there are 19 BRT Stations running east-west on the Red Line, as well as another 5 BRT Stations extending into Saskatoon's northeast on the Red Line.

read in the star phoenix app that beside market mall, theyre re-zoning for commercial space. they also mentioned the Market Mall Condo project that was proposed last year, seems like its still a go according to the article. 2 towers, 9 storeys and 10 storeys.

there wasnt a timeline to start, but i think its a good idea to re-zone those lots.

thoughts?

You guys should be more grateful for Regina saving your asses.

First Greystone steps up and saves River Landing and now Brandt revives the Hitachi plant. What's next, Harvard comes in and builds City Centre Tower?

And by they way, Brandt has their own fleet of planes including a Challenger:

Sure! I'd welcome that!

Right on Stormer and TY Regina, makes me wonder though how come they are investing so much into Saskatoon.

You need to stop thinking about city states. It time to embrace corridors and clusters. A win for Saskatoon should be viewed as a win for Regina and vice versa.

Plus the planning of a new 300 million dollar new hockey palace

Agreed. No matter where these companies are from, it's great to see Sask. Based companies investing in projects to create jobs within the province. And as a former Regina guy now living in Saskatoon, I'm loving seeing some of my fav. Regina watering holes like Leeopold's and Cathedral Social House setting up shop here in YXE.

Regina gets the gov't town label but there a nice class of YQR entrepreneurs also investing in Saskatoon. As you say, a win-win for both cities and the province

I agree and was clearly joking. A little sibling rivalry is fine. I have lived in Saskatoon and have a business there. I will be there the next few weekends. Love it. I follow this thread hoping to see the latest great development for Saskatoon and Saskatchewan.
