That is less than 300/year if true.

I noticed that the latest restaurant (The Hills?) to try their hand in the old Olympia location on the (almost) corner of 2nd & 22nd is closed and there's now a coming soon sign for "Olympia 2.0"--it seems as though the Olympia must have put a curse on that building with 3 or 4 failed attempts at other restaurants in that spot.

Just like Olympia and many other downtown restaurants/ businesses, The Grazing Goat on 20th has closed down. It is tough to hear of the continued struggles of small businesses downtown.

Actually it sounds like the bar manager and cook from the Grazing Goat will be part of the new Olympia. I guess they are wanting to fill a similar niche as the former Olympia (i.e. open super late), but with much better food and drink. I'm interested to see how it does. The space does look pretty nice now.

Did the Hills even open before it shut down?

There's been rumors of something happening to the Sears at midtown (either closing completely or losing a floor), and the food court moving upstairs in end corner to promote more flow to the upstairs like a modern mall. Anyone know their plans? The Sears logo was revamped over 6 months now and the old signs haven't been replaced so something must be happening - Sears can't be this slow on changed all of their corporate logos that's not like Sears to disappoint their shareholders and continue to be a slow moving department store that's waiting to go bankrupt (sarcasm, ha)...

Winter City Strategy

I recently completed the City's survey on their Winter City Strategy. The one category on comfort and mobility got me thinking.
After spending time this winter in downtown Calgary and downtown Winnipeg, this city needs to start planning for, and building skywalks downtown. Maybe start with one from Midtown Plaza to Scotia Centre. It sure makes it easy to be active downtown when you don't have to deal with wind, rain, cold, snow and ice.

Hasn't the 10,000 post limit for threads been retired? Or am I mistaken in thinking that was the case?

Is there enough construction going on around the city making it worth looking for a survey/drafting job locally? I'd like to stay here for the summer but it depends on the job market situation. Thanks

Haven't heard anything about it from a moderators standpoint. They do let some threads run over the mark. We'll keep it as is here. Around 10K, give or take we'll create a new thread as we've done in the past with Regina's and Winnipeg's..

Perhaps I'm against the majority, but IMO the struggles of Grazing Goat were solely their own and not part of a larger struggle or trend for downtown/Riversdale businesses. Although the space is beautiful, it was far from comfortable or cozy. Although the food was different, I think it completely missed the mark and was consistently underwhelming. The cocktails, although great, were priced very high. I think they missed their opportunity to be the new neighborhood gathering place. Although I don't work at the 220, I rarely see anyone from there enjoying lunch or even after work drinks here.

Hoping someone can take this space and realize its true potential.

I agree. Also, I'm happy to report that the space is in good hands. A new diner (specializing in brunch cocktails and donuts) is planning to open in that space early-mid summer.

Awesome! Can't wait! Who's opening it? Saskatoon locals?

No, I agree with you on this. We go out a lot for supper and drinks and have found the GG to be disappointing - we went there with friends on my recommendation and I was embarrassed afterwards, it was just as you said. Looking forward to the new place as per dsim249's comment, though. It's hard to find a good donut in this city and the ones people like (Nutana Bakery, Downey's) just don't seem to do it for me.

This expands Brandt's total manufacturing square footage to 500,000 - this plant was 200,000 sq ft. Time to move some head office jobs to Saskatoon! Especially when we have more US bound flights for them.
