Nothing beats fresh air.
Who pays to heat and ventilate the soffit space?

Is the elevator heated with a conditioned vestibule top and bottom?

Sorry for all the questions. It just seems goofy.

Ok, didn't look like there could be one. But as Drew's questions note it does seem quite silly.

I have yet to figure out how and where the penthouse suite is. The glass box sits on top of the elevator, so must have an access point in there somewhere. Is the penthouse also on top of the elevator, or surrounding it somehow?

It must be any other unit on that top floor, just slightly larger and with access to the box.

Oh, oh, the private sector is starting worry about lack of Pallister spending and the potential effect on their wallets. He might be losing his peeps.

Should anyone be surprised? All Pallister talked about was righting the financial ship. Only way to do that is cut. He's been cutting a lot lately.

Just wait until the Keeyask ball drops. Boy that'd be something.

In some cases, he's cutting off his nose to spite his face. For the WAG and Manitoba Museum, the feds are ready to hand out cash for some time now, but it's conditional on the province matching. Giving up free money from the feds is just dumb along with the economic activity those projects bring.

We had been talking recently about AT pathways in the area of Pembina and Bishop Grandin. The City has an RFP out for prelim design on a grade separation structure over Pembina Highway, on the south side at University Crescent. Which is fantastic. Will be interesting to see how it gets laid out. As people will need to climb up ramps, maybe 6m-7m high to get over Pembina.

It is a bit weird as you can already pass under Pembina at the Bishop underpass. But I guess they want something that spans over top of all the roadways and ramps, eliminating any pedestrian car interaction.

Edit: My mistake, you can only get under the rail bridge on Bishop, not Pembina. So it makes sense they want some kind of grade sep.

Cutting is GOOD.

The reliance on government is too big here.

Yes, I hope he picks the right times to spend when it's beneficial, but on this board and in this city there just seems to be a bigger "why isn't daddy warbucks spending money" complex than other cities. Only one problem... we have less money.

I hope he picks his times to inject cash, but it's beyond naive to say "all he knows how to do is cut" when we ACTUALLY NEED CUTS. And remember, he got super rich in financial services, so "allegedly" he knows something about the marketplace.

^While I agree in principal, cold turkey cutting like this can be harmful. Cutting many yobs man. He doesn't care. As you've said, he's rich anyways.

Saying all hands on deck repeatedly, blah blah blah, then bolting to Costa Rica with virtually no contact? 🞵🞵🞵 man. Maybe if he was better at managing his job, people wouldn't be so critical. He's a pompous 🞵🞵🞵 most of the time.

How anyone can say Pallister shouldn't be cutting is dumbfounding, what part of a billion dollar deficit don't some of you get!?!!!

Manitoba has a $30 Billion dollar debt. that was doubled during the NDP regime. Do you guys have any idea the amount of tax dollars that are squandered every year for debt. servicing?!?

Manitoba has already dug such deep hole that it will make it hard to retain professionals who don't want to be taxed at the highest rates in Canada. The irreparable harm done to Manitoba during the reign of the NDP regime will take years to correct.

Cold turkey needless hiring done by the NDP regime in manner that would have made any former Eastern Bloc country proud to prop up job numbers was truly idiotic. Who doesn't know someone working for the provincial govt., a govt. crown or agency doesn't hear stories of the NDP regime padding work places with needless manager after manager.

Why should everything and I mean everything built in this province public or private have a government stink to it in the form of tax dollars, incentives, grants, tax breaks etc.......

Wow, I can't believe you are making the big mistake that because he's a successful businessman he must know to run the economy. That's nonsense. The Government is, as others have pointed out, not a business. The US is being run by a billionaire businessman right now and we can see how great that's going. Also, the article I attached talks about the Business Council of Manitoba, which must be filled with businessmen, bemoaning Pallister's approach. My additional point was that, when you can leverage federal cash for the province by a matching grant, it only makes sense to do it. It generates economic activity for a smaller investment on the province's behalf.

There is something inherently wrong in Manitoba when in a so-called free market economy when every private endeavour needs to be propped up with public funding and incentives. Every dollar the govt. puts forth needs to be re-payed at some point and off loading on future generations is just wrong.

Short term gain for long term pain is why Manitoba is in the mess it is financially right now. Without transfer payments to the tune of over a billion dollars a year Manitoba would be a basket case!

You mean all the shares he got when Filmon sold MTS? You must have noticed how happy he was with the Bell announcement right? And while I'm at it, where is Filmon now hmmm? Self serving, almost the majority of them.

You know this happens in every Province, State, Country in the world. Big Smoke T.O. puts hundreds of millions into private developments.

Toronto is 5.9M in a province of 13.5M and before you say it's all relevant what percentage of Ontario's population is dependent on govt. and what percentage of the population actually contributes through taxes compared to Manitoba. And I do realize public money goes into a lot of private projects but at what extent? In Manitoba things aren't even contemplated unless some sort of govt. funds are available and this is just sad.

I am not sure that is accurate. I do question at what point a private developer will build something in downtown Winnipeg without so much government assistance. When downtown Winnipeg experienced a lot of construction in the 60/70s, did every project received the same funding as today?

Yup, this is all true. Maybe in a place like NYC they don't get huge grants and all. But it does happen for sure. Calgary, Edmonton, whatever. Public money goes into private developments regularly.
