The VOID Corporate Center will join the original plans for the Triad Center and the Newhouse Hotel as ambitious downtown projects that would never be.

After multiple renditions, the VOID Corporate Center (formerly referred to as the Air Center) appears to dead. For Sale signs feature prominently on the vacant lot that was going to be the site of the city’s next tower.

Awesome! Likely we'll get a single story CVS.

Brett Anderson and Ken should be friends and share stories with each other of their failed high-rise dick tease projects.

They also took down a pretty cool little building on the corner 400 S and Denver Street for that ugly, bulky residential building they constructed there over the last couple years.

It wasn't anything fancy but a nice little smoke shop (Knuckleheads) and it was clearly a pretty old building. I believe there were a few residential buildings in the back as well.

That sign has been there for a while. I was disappointed but not surprised to see it. It will probably end up becoming another 6-8 story apartment building.

Luckily it will be at least 100' tall, so while not overly impressive at the minimum, at least it will be a little better than a 2 story cement podium with 5 stories of apartments on top.

They did incorporate one of the older buildings into the project didn't they? And I believe the project has ground-level retail.

Beautiful Hilton Hotel planned for Nairobi. Probably a pipe dream but I would love to see something like this for the CCH. A slightly smaller version of the smaller tower size is probably more realistic I believe given the 375 height restriction.

Does anyone have an update on the CCH process. Is it dead? Is it happening? Are we waiting for the next legislative session in the winter to sweeten the pot again?

According to the study, there are an additional 7,756 apartment units proposed in the County as of Summer 2016 and 2,690 of those, 34.6% are within Salt Lake City, and that does not include Hardware Village.
And Salt Lake City only accounts for 17 percent of the county population (for now at least)

This project will be as large as the Encore and will go all the way to the printing building next to the 7-11.

Unless they recently changed their plans, there will be no ground floor retail and all the buildings are set to be demoed.

Anything but beige.

It's interesting to see where The Gateway ended up compared to the models and renderings that were on Boyer's website 16 years ago. Has anyone seen those? I lost a bunch of data a few years back and with it all the artists renderings and models that I'd saved from the internets.

If anyone out there has any of those original artist's drawings I'd love to see them.

I do wish they could've found a new color pallet that would've saved the brick and stone from getting painted over. I really hate painted brick and especially stone.. perhaps they plan on replacing that? I'll wait...

I like the density but these new mega apartment buildings have all the architectural interest of cold war era Soviet public housing. Are they building this shit in other cities?

Does anyone know for sure that that gray is the final coat? To me it seems more like a primer.

This paint job literally looks like ass, but then again it's looked like ass for years now. Add in some "edgy" street art yo! and you'l really class it up according to the RFP. SMH.

I've heard this argument before. It's true, many residents did move to the area knowing there was a shelter. However many did so only because a real estate agent assured them that the shelter was going to move. Happens all the time. Whether it's an honest mistake or intentional deception to make a sale, many agents have been saying it for years.
I walked by the Road Home last Friday after the city had done their first "operation diversion" sweep and I honestly can say if the shelters were always the way I found them that night, I'd be fine living by them. I just don't know if it's sustainable. I haven't been back to see if it got bad again..

Noone's saying that we should leave things like they are. You deleted the rest of that post. Further people in other neighborhoods bought homes without a shelter nearby so your argument is moot at best.

Most people seem to want to address the homeless issue. ajiuO's screw all those irredeemable homeless nimbyism isn't a solution. Under a plan for scattered shelters why should the Rio Grande area be left out?

I meant no disrespect when I removed the second half of your post. I haven't been following your debate and I'm not offering any solutions about the shelter so it wasn't relevant.

I simply wanted to suggest that those who were encouraged to invest in that blighted area shouldn't be beaten up for it, especially when many were given the classic bait and switch. Since before the Gateway opened there has been promise after promise from a grand and vibrant transit hub that was scaled back to the embarrassing urine-soaked shack on 600 west, an all-year farmers market that will likely never come to fruition, a world-class aquarium that went to Draper, a soccer stadium that went to Sandy, a high-density urban neighborhood of upscale condos that has now turned into a mix of lower income/market-rate apartments surrounding a beautiful and wasted park.. The city dangled the carrot for a lot of folks for several years.

That is a little bit of a misrepresentation of my view... it's true my first priority are the tax paying residence of the communities... They should always get first consideration so let's just be realistic here. So yes I do want to move the homeless situation to areas where it's going to affect the least number of tax paying citizens and effect property value the least... What exactly is your problem with that?

I have never said that I didn't want there to be any homeless shelters. I've pretty much always maintained that I want there to be more homeless shelters that house less people... I think with the problem should be spread out instead of concentrated... and yes I do think that the shelter should be put in areas with the least amount of impact... Rio Grande and gateways are developing areas and having the shelters there have a huge impact on the development of those areas... In a way I think it's better to move it completely out of that area because it takes away the stigma that that kind of congregation of homeless population is acceptable there... It kind of gives a more diversified homeless population a fresh start...

And yes I am a little bit harsh in my opinion of people who have chosen a life of drug and alcohol abuse... You really can't do a lot for those people unless they choose to change for themselves... It's really a waste of resources to try to help people who just want to waste their life on drugs and alcohol... If someone wants help there is help there for them and I've seen this happen... unfortunately it's a rare and most people in those situations don't change... and I would rather spend resources on those who could turn around and end up becoming a contribution at some point..

Particularly that shot of the gray. I'm almost certain that it's just a primer or first step in the process.

Ah, I thought we were talking about the AC Hotel development.
