111 looks like it is basically complete. When I walked by today they were setting up tables and chairs in the lobby, it looked like they were getting ready for some sort of presentation.

The 'Encore Bistro' is now open in the lobby of the EPAC. There is sign on the door saying it is open from 7-3.

Mayors update legislature on homeless shelter solutions

Salt Lake City will ultimately get two new shelters. The city council will pick whose neighborhood. Biskupski said that she was having a closed-door meeting with the council and giving them a list of potential shelter sites. Five sites will ultimately be made public by Oct. 10 for comment, and the final two are expected to be selected by Nov. 1.

It is sad to see this project fall apart as it was the first non-City Creek project to emerge after the recession. My hope is that an even larger project emerges and an affordable housing percentage is added in exchange for a waiver on impact fees.

I, on the other hand, am extremely pleased to see that steaming fraud-hole on State on the verge of a write off. It was the ugliest thing ever conceived, it knocked over one of the best old mercantile (Baer Bros) buildings in our city that used to house proper affordable housing, sucked up valuable, critical capital and RDA attention and has ended up as a blighted and tagged eye sore. Ben Logue is a squatter and his assets will now land in more capable hands, which is great for the city. I hope whatever replaces it is 30 stories and at full market rate. Incentivize unit renovation for affordable housing, not the most expensive form of subsidies, new build construction. Make existing slum lords accountable for their garbage properties. Let our new build shine.

I'm sure there will be better pictures eventually, but it looks like the renovations to the exterior of the Delta Center consist of a new awning? I also believe they're going the way of other stadiums and putting more emphasis on the suites inside. Did anybody actually listen to the whole thing? Great changes for the interior. I didn't expect many exterior changes but I thought they were planning on putting street retail/restaurants on the block. Guess that didn't work out.

It does look from the pictures like the plaza area on South Temple down to 400 West will be sloped so there won't be a bunch of steps on that corner once they finish, which is one thing I hoped would change. I really hate those steps.

I watched the entire press conference. You are right, the only exterior addition is the new atrium area on the NE corner, along with a new circular video board on the marque and a stage.

The interior will consist of a lot of upgrades, including completely renovated, larger suites, gathering areas in the four upper corners of the arena that will be open to all the upper bowl seats, and will go around the entire arena, connecting all for corners. These areas will have food and drink offerings and a club gather feel to it.

There will be Four gathering/clubs on level 2, basement, where the current media room, ticket office and small store are located.

Four premium suites will be added to floor 1, with a door directly to court side club seats.

There will be a new restaurant in each of the existing corner on level 3 (main concourse)

Solar arrays on the roof to reduce energy costs.

There are a few things that I can't remember exactly what they said.

No there isn't a lot of exterior additions, but the main goal of the update was to bring it up to today's sports and entertainment standards, which this will accomplish very successfully, IMO. I like that the Miller's have made a commitment to stay in downtown for the next 25-30 years.

It is now a $125 Million renovation, which will be great for our economy over the next year. They will start the construction after the upcoming season and it will be finished by October 2017, in time for the 2017-18 NBA season.

The new interior amenities will be exciting for the everyone that will attend. The exterior screens and plaza will hopefully continue to activate the street and help with the reactivation of Gateway before/after games.

I don't know how these new amenities compare to other arenas, but hopefully this will attract future all-star games and March Madness games (past the first 2 rounds)! It's exciting to see the Millers recommitment to the community.

This lobby is a gold standard for Salt Lake City. We haven't had an impressive lobby since the Church Office Building. I really hope this raises the bar for developers who will add more height to our city over the years. This is the most approachable building on Main Street right now.

I'm in total agreement with you. I like the idea of small amounts of affordable units included in all new apartments, but this concept of solving affordable housing by building affordable housing is a failed experiment. Its how you get shitty looking cheap buildings that are less humane for the poor. The best way to bring down the cost of something is to increase the supply. We have a glut of older apartments that are priced higher because of a low supply of newer and nicer apartments. If you build enough housing the demand falls. The nicer expensive housing of the present becomes the affordable housing of the future.

Asies1981, I read your article and you mentioned that impact fees can be used for park maintenance. "Impact fees can go toward the expansion and maintenance of existing parks or the land acquisition for new parks." This is actually not allowed under Utah State Law. I'm not sure how this compares to other arenas, I haven't been to anything build in the last 10 years. These guys did Madison Square Garden so I'm sure there are a few similarities.

This also gets rid of a lot of meeting space that was used for press conferences and other shin digs. The Jazz have been moving a lot of their media events over to the practice facility.

It's disappointing. I was hoping for more street engagement and an overall rework of the facade, which has always been ugly.

It's definitely nowhere near the level of interior renovations MSG saw. But then, we're not New York.







I don't mind the interior upgrades, but it's still a box with a smaller box attached to it. Meh.

I'm not a fan of the exterior either. The awning will be nice when it's cold and removing those stairs is a huge plus.

As far as interior upgrades and how it isn't close to MSG's upgrades I'm not sure what you are referring to. What impressive upgrades are in those photo's. The Jazz have better video boards and it isn't close. They are apparently going to replace all the seating and the open lounges at the top of the bowl should give it a unique feel. MSG has a history that Vivint doesn't and the shallow bowl means there are more good seats(for way more people though) but I don't think MSG out renovated Vivint.
