If it's February, it's probably too early to book right now. The Marriott's not yet open, and depending on how they do, the hotels in the surrounding area may react with promotions and pricing changes.

The on site Delta would probably be your best bet for cheap and close. Otherwise there are plenty of hotels on airport land that offer a shuttle service for free (5 min ride). Their promotions change from month to month, I'd say just keep checking.

The cheapest solution would be leave your bags at the airport (I believe service desk, the Alberta Tourism location has lockers), then take a bus downtown for some food and stay at a bar until they close, get a taxi back to the airport to catch your flight.

Thanks for this, but we want to stay right at the airport. We are flying with 3 other couples, and all want to stay right there. With only two hotels, I imagine it's tough to get good prices, that's why I was asking if anyone has any inside info on codes or websites. Expedia.ca and hotels.com don't have deals yet, or may never, but I know those are always there. I almost exclusively book on hotels.com.

The only advice I can give you is to wait until the Marriot in the new terminal opens, which I believe will be in September. Not much more help I can give you though. Welcome to Calgary!

Hotels right on the airport property proper really give it to you on pricing, we did an overnight at the Sheraton in Terminal 3 at YYZ. It was like $250 for the night. However it is awesome to just walk a short distance to your check-in the following morning.

Really not that much affecting YYC. YEG unfortunately getting hit again.

Changes on the transborder front:

YYC-PDX will be a DH4 instead of a CRA
YYC-SFO of course is new on a daily CRA (new as in new compared to last winter)
YYC-LAX double daily 320 compared to rouge last winter.
YYC-PHX reduced to 5 weekly rouge between the Xmas peak and mid Feb then back to daily rouge
YYC-LAS reduced to 5 weekly rouge between the Xmas peak and mid Feb then back to daily rouge

Domestic:
No big YYC adjustments really
A bit less YYZ, YUL and YVR capacity with just a few less frequencies and smaller planes on some flights. YYZ will still see two daily 763s though. More E90 to YUL. A bit more YXE a bit less YQR.
YYC-YEG will be down to 11 flights per day now. And still some 50 seater DH3s.
YEG seeing cuts to YVR (until mid Feb then back to 8 daily) , YYC (as above), YMM and YQU. YOW single daily back to an E90. Smaller planes on YYZ and YUL too.

Hey guys new to the thread. Just heard that westjet and BA are ending there codshare.... So is it the end of BA

Hi, welcome to the forum!

I don't know if it'll be the end of BA, but they lose a lot of connecting pax because of this, which could drive down their numbers

YYC-LHR is I believe our strongest O&D market, so I think BA can still make a go of it without the code shares from WS.

New Marriott at the airport opened yesterday. Lounge, Foyer, and checkin area very full at 5pm when I walked by.

The corridor connecting the domestic terminal from the international terminal also opened. There is a temporary hoarding wall preventing views of the international terminal checkin hall. Nothing worth taking a picture.

Was at the airport today and had an opportunity to get a taste of the new terminal as the corridor between the existing building and the new Marriot hotel is now open. I know you can't get much of a feel based on a corridor but here are my first impressions:
- The new Marriot is beautiful. The lobby bar/breakfast area located on the departures level is very stylish and would be a nice place to pop in for a drink.
- it's a disappointment YYC has decided to opt with 'generic airport grey' for the flooring, pillars and walls. Walking through both the arrivals and departures level I felt I easily could have been in YUL or terminal 1 in YYZ. I. Would have liked to see the green and white tiles from the existing terminal continued as well as the stonework for the pillars.
- keeping with the grey theme, the corridor on the arrivals level has a very YYZ terminal 1 vibe to it which is to say grey, drab, features low lighting and is instantly depressing. I really hope the main portion of the new international terminal building with its vaulted ceilings, big windows and wood roof has a very different feel to it. Fingers crossed at least!

I would think so too. The folks on the YEG thread seem to think that will be the end of BA in YYC.

Really it's just a few but some really bitter ones that are very anti-YYC.... not just the airport but Calgary. Oh well. All the power to them. Unfortunately, economics and geography just keep making it worse up there.

As for the BA and Westjet thing, yes I am sure some people in YEG would love to see BA exit YYC. Problem is, very unlikely they would fly into YEG instead. The YYC-UK market is much larger than YEG-UK.

I go to that thread sometimes just to check out the anti-YYC rants. Most of the thread is talking about YYC, rather than their own airport. Interesting because outside of today's YEG talk, nobody here ever mentions YEG.

If I lived in Edmonton I'd probably rant too. It's gotta be tough watching Calgary get all the cake, and with the new terminal opening things will just keep getting better for YYC.
