Here are something more accurate on how it is done, even if it is old.

Looks like delivered fuel volume just hasn't grown at the same rate as Calgary.

I can read. What does that have to do with the cities and towns that surround Edmonton? that are part of the Metro....

"MSI funding is based on municipal populations, education property tax requisitions and kilometres of local roads and includes base funding for all municipalities and Sustainable Investment funding for municipalities with limited local assessment bases."

The education property tax portion of the formula returns more money to the Calgary Region. The MSI was designed in place of the province vacating the education property tax room to the cities, which Ed Stelmach promised in during the PC leader race a decade ago. Once the Edmonton region did the math and the tax room vacated was worth much less to the municipalities than in the Calgary region, they lobbied to have a more balanced program.

So on a per capita basis we are getting screwed...is this being addressed by the Government?

I will try to simplify things for you and try to use small words...

When people commute from outside of Edmonton, do they add wear and tear to City streets, yes or no?
1st of all that statement isn't true, most Edmonton projects are funded by 1/3 the city, 1/3 the province and 1/2 federal government. So your taxes are going to pay for things outside of Edmonton and Alberta, as our other people's taxes are going to pay for things inside Alberta.

Next, what about Edmontonians working in Nisku, Acheson, Fort Saskatchewan or Fort McMurray, should they be banned from using roads outside Edmonton?

Now to get back somewhat on topic was at the Street Performer's Festival and the Artistic Producer Shelly Switzer announced that they will still be at Churchill Square for 2017. So either LRT construction will not impact this festival, hopefully the impact will be small for other festivals too.

The program was never designed to distribute funds on a per capita basis. Unless there is a lot of agitation, the varying programs for various sizes of municipalities won't be changed, as presumably the programs benefit most municipalities.

Also, until transit projects grew in response to there being way more funding, the other levels of government were close to 100% on the last projects, both in Calgary and Edmonton.

This round of projects has jumped into the multiple billions class, which the programs hadn't caught up to.

With the coming provincial carbon tax transit fund, and the new federal transit fund, I think the city will be able to step back on the next round of projects.

Of course Calgary have the luxury of Alberta Transportation maintaining the Deerfoot while Edmonton has NO support for Alberta Transportation to look after one of our major throughput roads like the Yellowhead, or Whitemud. Just makes matter worse for Edmonton on top of getting screwed on the grants.

A historical accident of the 'Nafta Super Highway' promise - both cities grew so fast and the province elected a Premier so enthusiastic about building highways that we are way ahead on completing the ring roads.

I don't know why it was so important to remove all the traffic lights off of the highway, but in the early 2000s it was imperative.

In the end, new programs like GreenTRIP even removed the per capita allocation, and put the Edmonton region and Calgary region on equal footing (though that can be screw with a little by changing the definition of the particular regions). I have to think the new carbon tax transit investment fund will be based on GHGs avoided, or ridership, similar to the original vision of GreenTRIP

Still no timeline available for LRT signs to work
http://www.metronews.ca/news/edmonton/20...ine-available-for-lrt-signs-to-work.html

Quote:
The city still has no timeline for when its LRT signs will come back to life.

The signs, which alert passengers to the time the next train will arrive, have been offline since April.

Metro spoke to Edmonton Transit in June and was told the signs would be fixed "as soon as possible."

One month later, the situation is the same.

City spokesperson Mary-Ann Thurber said behind the scenes work is still being done to address problems in the system and to upgrade software.

There is currently no set date for the signs to be turned back on, she said.

The signs were also down for about a month in June 2015 for inaccurate signalling issues.

Dont mean to be Cynical but I agree.

The city cant even maintain the trees flowers shrubs and grass at 23 ave and Gateway/Calgary trail. Has not been touched in over a month. Busiest entrance to our city and it looks like 🞵🞵🞵🞵. Brutal.

Huh? Trees and shrubs look fine...in fact I thought they looked great. Are you referring to the proliferation of "knee high" weeds?

Group seeks court injunction against Valley Line LRT after footbridge closure
http://globalnews.ca/news/2859766/group-...alley-line-lrt-after-footbridge-closure/

Quote:
The City of Edmonton is being taken to court by a group of residents upset about the loss of a pedestrian bridge across the North Saskatchewan River.

The group, called Save Edmonton’s Downtown Footbridge, is seeking an injunction in Court of Queen’s Bench to halt the demolition of the bridge to make way for a new Valley Line LRT bridge, citing an old agreement signed by the city and province in the 1970s.

“If the city is going to do something on this kind of a scale – in other words, put another transportation corridor through the River Valley – then they need to get the province’s approval,” Eric Gormley said.

The case will go before a judge on Aug. 16.
