As I said earlier surely this turf can be removed and replaced as needed.

For the next 8-10 years anyway... but it's not like that many get shared around... we'd get 1 or 2 absolute max.

Oh for sure. With the small steps though. There's some hand rail requirements. You can only have so many steps without a handle rail. Maybe 2 or something. Or it goes by height. You can't have a drop of more than 2' without a railing.

They can remove the turf? Seems like a lot of work to remove the entire field. Would it come off in the same strips and then get resewn again? I couldn't see them rolling the entire field too one side. Like they do with tarps at baseball stadiums.

It seems that the people who made this decision actually are aware of how little interest there is in a "FIFA sanctioned" soccer game at new Mosaic. They could go play at Leibel Field if need be.

I agree.

I think the possibility would have been taken into consideration. Throughout this process, I feel like they took their time and thought through things. Much like with the roof, amount of seats, outside aesthetics, etc., it comes down to finances. How can you maximize the experience while paying a reasonable amount of money?

The World Cup is only played on grass, except for women's, but they aren't happy about playing on Turf. Besides how often do you expect Canada to hold any tournaments? So what about MLS? I would think that they would prefer to play at home for the revenue. They simply do not get the TV ratings that other sports do.

So, the likelihood of having any professional soccer come to Regina is small. We are a small market with limited interest. The risk seems greater than the reward. If Saskatchewan keeps growing, there may be interest in the future. Then we can replace the turf, if that is financially feasible.

There really are just a few dissenting voices. It's what the internet does well. When people are happy about something, they rarely post. When people are upset, the internet becomes a soap box for their opinion. So public interest or outrage is difficult to assess, if we are only using the opinion of the internet.

In this case, I agree that the decision makers probably did their due diligence before making their informed decision.

We're discussing, that's what forums are. I'm sure it will be just great.

With regards to the FIFA thing: Perhaps by 2026, the turf may need to be replaced anyway. Pull out the old turf, stick in the soccerfield turf, then put in new football turf again after FIFA is done. After that, FIFA wouldn't be back until, . . oh, . . 2070 or so. Then a new stadium would be an order by then ---- again! Lol! ( . . and perhaps Saskatoon would then have a similar-type stadium as well.)

Yes. Forgive my momentary rant without context. I've done a fair amount more lurking than posting on forums. It was not my intent to shush people and stop discussion.

My intention lies within the amount of "lurking" that I do. I try to read all I can before I post as I fear saying something stupid and uninformed. So I get to see Twitter posts or other social site postings where there is always someone saying something that they would not have to say if they did a couple minutes of research. I don't mind honest questions as I have a lot. I should know better with social media. But it still irks me a little.

My whole post comes down to: it's probably not financially feasible to have to paint lines all the time just to maybe have 1 or 2 opportunities for professional soccer every couple of years. And they probably have run the numbers on it. It seems like we are building a stadium in the best possible way (or compared to every other new CFL stadium).

Yes, no worries. It's also difficult to detect the desired tone of a post, or any text. You don't get the subtleties that come through with audio or visual.

Also, I thought the roof was to be translucent? Shadow on the field looks pretty dark. Maybe it's hard to detect due to the contrast.

When I was given a tour of the stadium a few weeks ago, I got the feeling the roof was quite translucent. The top of the east upper deck was pleasantly bright even though it was in the shade (I was toured around 9am).

I think that people, including myself, were thinking that the material would be almost transparent. It is translucent, just not to the same degree as the renderings. But I've thought about it and I don't know how you communicate translucency in a picture without pushing it towards the transparent.

This material is very new to me so I don't know all of its properties. It could get a bit more translucent in the next year.

It has lightened a fair bit, but the say it will only be 15 per cent translucent

Yeah, the roof material was definitely over-hyped and over-sold. It's basically going to be the same as a thin tent awning, where it lets a little bit of light in, but is mostly opaque. It definitely won't look close to the marketing renders.

I am interested to see how it glows at night when the lights are fired up. That should look good. With the LED's they can run those lights all the time.
