The
Moncton [Retail] thread is for all of greater Moncton, including Dieppe & Riverview.
When I created the thread however, my intention was that it be used for retail announcements (and speculation) concerning projects in the areas
major retail developments (including Champlain Place & area, Trinity Drive, Northwest Centre & the Mapleton road precinct).
There are lots of smaller neighbourhood retail developments which I thought could be handled in the neighbourhood threads, because really, a new pharmacy on Dieppe Blvd doesn't really impact somebody in the northwest end. Of course just about any new opening in Moncton's downtown should go in the downtown thread.
This was at least my intention, but obviously there are grey areas and the potential for confusion exists, but it is generally not a big deal. Obviously though, any development regarding Champlain Place belongs in the retail thread.
As a rule:
- a new store in Champlain Place belongs in the [Retail] thread. Champlain Place is a major regional retail destination.
- a new generic strip mall on Mountain Road belongs in the [Northwest] thread
- an announcement regarding a
major retailer belongs in the [Retail] thread, regardless of where in the city this is located. An example would be the rumours of Costco moving to Harrisville Blvd. That area isn't a major retail district (yet), but a Costco relocation would have ramifications to the entire retail industry in the metro area.
Usually if a problem arises, what I will do is respond to a (quoted) misplaced post within the retail thread. This will shift the discussion over to the proper spot........
