[Moncton] Dieppe Developments

Jump+ might actually be on there way to the empty location in the Walmart corridor next to Rogers. As I have understood the situation It would cost them the same to lease but they would have to renovate the store, and place new doors, or gate so they could close up shop, and CF would pick up the bill up to a certain amount. that is what I've understood of the situation. I'm hopeful to see the construction walls up at that location soon.

Looks like construction has started on the new hotel behind city hall. Construction fences all around the site and they're digging with excavators. Going to be exciting to see that start to rise!

I honestly highly doubt this. It's about 400 sq/ft smaller then their current location. If they move they are going to want to expand as they are busy. Also if they pay the same lease rate for 400 sq/ft less, they are crazy.

Another thing, this is in the wrong thread, should be in the retail thread.

I've noticed this morning that here is also construction fencing going up directly across the street from the hotel, to the south of the new 3-storey office bulding currently under construction. Is anyonw aware of a project going up here, or is it maybe just overflow equipment from the adjacent construction site?

The retail thread is for Moncton as it indicates, this is in Dieppe which as I understand it makes it the correct thread to use. By this logic the Moncton (Sackville) Thread should not have retail information but should also fall under Moncton Retail. Whoever thought up all these categories for New Brunswick makes thing very confusing for the rest of us. Maybe The Moncton Retail Thread should be called Greater Moncton Retail Thread or New Brunswick Retail Thread.

The Moncton [Retail] thread is for all of greater Moncton, including Dieppe & Riverview.

When I created the thread however, my intention was that it be used for retail announcements (and speculation) concerning projects in the areas major retail developments (including Champlain Place & area, Trinity Drive, Northwest Centre & the Mapleton road precinct).

There are lots of smaller neighbourhood retail developments which I thought could be handled in the neighbourhood threads, because really, a new pharmacy on Dieppe Blvd doesn't really impact somebody in the northwest end. Of course just about any new opening in Moncton's downtown should go in the downtown thread.

This was at least my intention, but obviously there are grey areas and the potential for confusion exists, but it is generally not a big deal. Obviously though, any development regarding Champlain Place belongs in the retail thread.

As a rule:
- a new store in Champlain Place belongs in the [Retail] thread. Champlain Place is a major regional retail destination.
- a new generic strip mall on Mountain Road belongs in the [Northwest] thread
- an announcement regarding a major retailer belongs in the [Retail] thread, regardless of where in the city this is located. An example would be the rumours of Costco moving to Harrisville Blvd. That area isn't a major retail district (yet), but a Costco relocation would have ramifications to the entire retail industry in the metro area.

Usually if a problem arises, what I will do is respond to a (quoted) misplaced post within the retail thread. This will shift the discussion over to the proper spot........

ummm... hmmmm... so all retail goes into the retail thread even though it is all of Greater Moncton not just moncton. The structures and infrastructure themselves go into the individual neighbourhood threads. Did I get that right? So if McDonalds was opening a new Restaurant in downtown Moncton INSIDE an existing structure, that would be retail, but a new building being built would go into Downtown thread.

I don't want to be too hidebound by rules though. Most of the time it's all good.........

Consider the [Retail] thread to be the 'neighbourhood' for Commercial developments; Malls, Retail areas like Mapleton, major retailers like BSP, Costco, etc...

In any case, it's not a big deal one way or another. The mods can always redirect a conversation to appropriate threads as needed, no harm no foul to anyone. Posting in the wrong general thread certainly isn't an infraction-worthy event; it just may not get as much attention from the interested folks as it would otherwise.

A new Vegetarian restaurant has opened up in Dieppe next to the Starbucks on Champlain, it is a veitnamese restaurant, it's called "Veggie" haha.

I'm assuming it's utility work for the new hotel, but construction fencing and a big hole have been dug on the lot directly across from the new hotel on rue Marché in Dieppe. It's a gravel lot at the NE corner of Marché and Gauvin.

Anyone know anything?

I remember hearing that this parking lot was to be maintained by the city as an incentive for developpers to build downtown. Looks like it is now for sale.

I've heard that some people are starting to complain about the perceived lack of parking at Place 1604...

Yes, a new project started by the owners (the lady of the couple to be more precise) of the now gone Chan's House.

I went there last night. Very solid vegetarian versions of classic vietnamese options. They will be offering vietnamese sandwiches (Bahn mi) very soon. I've been waiting for this to be offered here for a long while.

It seems like there trying to have this area build up to then continue on with the purchase, and development of land in Downtown Dieppe the lot at the corner of Rue du Marche, and Gauvin has been sold, and the lot between the new city hall, and 200 Champlain is for sale. there is also potentially the lot between 200 Champlain, and Rue du Marche that will be put up for sale. As for the parking that you 2 are talking about I think it's the same lot that was rumored to have a hotel with underground parking that was supposed to go there.

With that said if all the land except the actual parking lot Behind 200 Champlain gets built up the only logical step would be for Dieppe to build there first parking garage to replace the lack of parking in the area.

This is only in my opinion.

Reading elsewhere the lot at Marche and gavin is for Champlain Dental is decamping CF Champlain and building there.

Champlain dental is the 3 storey building that is nearly complete at the corner of Champlain street and Marché.
