That you and other Vancouver posters are tripping over yourselves to conflate a comment about one part of a city with the city as a whole is really confounding. I've seen shots of nice parts of Vancouver, and I've even commented on them as such. Do you really need to be reassured that way?

The hyper-defensiveness and Marie Antoinette-like hysterics to any criticism of Vancouver is a reliable trend on this forum. Canadians are special snowflakes who are easily wounded by unflattering attention, but the Vancouver crew here take it to the next level. Which is rather ironic, given how tropical and/or Mediterranean it supposedly is there.
Like what you like i dont give a shit. Like i said im just calling you out on being kind of disingenuous. Ok you didnt say hellhole you said hellscape. Ok you werent specifically referring to the whole city, but rather a section of it. But thats kind of splitting hairs. Its sort of like you claiming to not know that picture was of Vancouver. People have to take you at your word for it, even though im 99 percent sure you did know it was vancouver.

You can call me a Vancouver defender (lol) or what ever other funny label you want. I assure you I am none of these things.

^ Am I the only one who doesn't think that picture constitutes a horrible hellscape? I mean, sure it may not be the most flattering angle, it's taken on an overcast day and there's a car-oriented block strategically placed in front, but so what... it's on the edge of downtown and by no means representative of the entire core.

By the same token you can probably also take a picture that purposely makes Karlie Kloss look bloated and awkward, but to what end? Do you pretend that the exception is the whole?

C'mon man.

It's not the best angle, nor is it really the point. It is a good example of that condescending, passive-aggressive tone with regard to Vancouver from Rousseau though. His continual assertion that Vancouverites are somehow more defensive than the rest of the country really defies logic and the long history of bickering in this forum. What an effective way to keep trolling the desired target, however.

But expecting someone like him to admit to coming across like a douchebag is like expecting Donald Trump to all of a sudden wake up one day and realize he's an idiot. Not going to happen and a waste of anyone's time.

Here I thought it is generally accepted Vancouverites are the most thin skinned among Canadians.

No its clearly Montreal that leads the list. Followed by Calgary then Toronto then Vancouver. These rankings are not open for discussion.

It's a great photo of the city, it's true vancouver. The fact that some forumers can't get over it is silly.

I agree but would put Vancouver before Toronto. Though as you said, not open to discussion. So carry on.

Where is your scored chart to prove these rankings? Until I see that, it's all just opinions to me.

Montreal 96 Calgary 88 Toronto 86 Vancouver 3 Clearly one can see by the scores represented, that what I am saying is unquestionably true.

Look, c'mon, let's get real here: Someone said it was "utterly depressing," and some precious Lord Fauntleroy from--wait for it--Vancouver responds with "How so?"

If that doesn't deserve a pasting on a discussion forum, then what does? This is getting hilarious! The thin-skinned Vancouverite trope is as well-established as the wanting-to-be-world-class Torontonian thing, but at least these days people in Toronto are generally able (or trying) not to be so obvious about it.

How do people on this forum respond to some unwitting soul asserting that Toronto's this, that or the other thing is in a league with New York and London? They get up in arms. The more clever make clever remarks. But the earnest aspiration and blindness to reality form a big fat target that says: "please make fun of me."

And why wouldn't you? This isn't rocket surgery.

I think you should just give it up, already. You're fighting against reality.

Once again, it's self-parody time here. I'm a "douchebag"? You know, people make passing comments about things all the time, because it's a discussion forum, but anything, anything perceived to not be undying adulation about Vancouver gets challenged, and apoplectic fits get thrown, and now here we are.

As an example of how people can discuss negative perceptions of aspects of cities without melting like the Wicked Witch of the West, have a look at the several-page discussion interspersed among other topics starting at post 3822 by me:

No one said anything about it representing "the entire core" or the entire city, for that matter. That individual shot, just that picture, is hideous and soul-sucking. I could sit down and write a couple of detailed paragraphs explaining why that particular shot is "Blade Runner 2: Destination Bleak," but it seems pretty obvious by the thousand words given in the photo.

Though to be fair, it's probably got more to do with the composition of the photograph than I gave it credit for.

Your tone here is chiding but warm. That's the difference. You can't see that difference, which has been well-established.

Keep up with your inane generalizations about the personality trends of an entire city. If you can't see how fundamentally stupid that is, what could anyone say to convince you? Nothing. Have a good Friday night, buddy.

Not only terrific pictures, but they also give a great overview of how the city has been planned over the years. Pretty cool. Good find.

Okay, this is my last post on this, I promise. Here's what I said that started off this foofaraw:

That's a pin cushion. Mississauga with mountains. Kinda ugly, though maybe not overwhelmingly so. The scenery outside the city's nice, of course.

Shots focusing on the CBD seem to be the best ones for Vancouver.
And here's what I said about Queen's Quay (in the example I linked to above):

There is a similarity there, admittedly, yes. But there is a perception created by your history of posting with regard to Vancouver that you acknowledge there. This perhaps colours the interpretation. I rarely post in the national section and I'm not one to freak out over every minor criticism or opinion but there is a tone to your history of posting about Vancouver that is genuinely condescending. Others agree. Perhaps we're not all thin-skinned, or crazy, or wrong.
