The wood on the canopy looks nice.
Agreed that glass wouldn't be safe - just look at the number of sidewalk canopies that are smashed each year from items dropped from much lower heights.

The cladding so far is pretty damn mediocre.

It sure does, which is very unfortunate. Almost all new towers in Surrey will look the same, give or take a few floors.

I'm sure someone here has seen a few good photos of what cities have done with areas that have poor natural lighting. That being said, with the canopy being so high, I'm not too sure if that will be a major issue what with the ambient light able to enter from almost all other directions (I can imagine the morning summer sun will still provide more than adequate lighting under those tracks).

On the "bright" side, when you look up from the street, you won't be able to see the diapers splattered on it.

Yah I agree I don't think it will affect lighting much. It is a good 15-20 feet above the top of the SkyTrain tracks so you're talking a long way up. It will likely block less light than the tracks themselves.

hopefully the guitar pick shaped holes will separate this tower form the rest as there's not much else to differentiate it (other than height)

This building is massive, when you look at it from the east or the west.

The guy I talked to yesterday said they skipped floors so that the man lift would stay true to the office/kwantlen floors on the other end of the building

Wow this buidling is so close to the skytrain tracks... Will noise be a concern for this building ? The reason I ask this ... is because I have friends that live In park place (near king george)... and they say they can still hear the noise.thoughts?

I've lived right above the tracks above a station, and you get used to it just like you get used to road noise. In the winter it is not a problem, as insulation dulls the sound sufficiently. I currently live near some tracks (not by a station), and and sometimes notice the hum of a train going by. In all, it will be comparable to Park Place, depending on which side of the building one is on in both cases.

Yeah, it depends on your tolerance. Some people are sensitive to noise, others, not so much.

Also the canopy they placed above the tracks for the span of the building with wood panels should help soften the noise.

For SkyTrain though the major noise comes from the Mark Is accelerating and from track switching. The track switching is the loudest and having lived in Park Place, that's the noise you typically can pick out at night.

There is no track switching at Surrey Central (or at least rarely) so I think it will be less of an issue. The most noisy in towers are emergency vehicles anyway. You hear every single one especially close to King George Station since it is so close to the Hospital and Fraser Highway is a major Fire Truck route.
