Finally. I have been patiently waiting to see what's up here; since the closing of the auto shop, the demo, and especially since they have been turning the remaining building into what certainly seems to be a sales centre. Disappointing: a crappy rendering style and a questionable design. When architecture firms produce renderings of the quality of this, they usually aren't any better with the detailing of their designs. Could be worse. But, please don't tell me that starry circle thing is anything more than a graphic prop. Yikes!

Now that I give it a bit of thought, given the skytrain alignment there, and that this will be a visual gateway to the new high density station area, this triangle lot deserves a slightly more interesting (iconic may be asking a bit too much) building.

Magusta is a local developer trying to make the transition from low rise, mostly wood construction, to highrise projects. The quality of their work is not the best. They have done a lot of scary 3-4 story large suburban complexes surrounded by mostly useless green space, all of which they tout to be good urban design.

Not bad! Aside from all the spandrel its a bit different especially for out in the suburbs.

It looks very 90s. It's better than the revolving door of used car lots/auto repair/etc that has been there over the years.

Yes, I guess I can give it that much. It's a bland typical low end tower with a gimmick.

Here's hoping the actual is constructed with the best of materials and detailing. Plenty of things turn out better in reality than in designer drawings/renderings. Noticed there is a star on a pole down at the Lougheed end as well. Otherwise, most of it looks on the high end of competent. The planting under the guideway is still inexplicable to me: very chaotic overall. Perhaps as it matures some sort of concept/design/form/something will emerge.

Thanks!

.. and that's across Braid Street from the future Sapperton Green.

Nice to see more than just the one warehouse area being redeveloped.

24 Hours paper had a story about the redevelopment of Lansdowne Mall in Richmond - looks like it is moving ahead with redevelopment of the parking lots:

In a process that will begin in the coming months with community consultation, Lansdowne Centre shopping mall’s 50-acre site in the heart of Richmond’s downtown will be redeveloped in phases to include multiple residential highrises, a 10-acre park, and a mix of retail and office space.

Long overdue. That place is as close as mall in Metro for being nominated for a spot in the Dead Malls of Canada thread.

It's just too bad Richmond continued with it's tradition of helter-skelter poorly planned development and let that Walmart centre at Alderbridge and Garden City go ahead, it would have made way more sense to hold out for that to be incorporated into Lansdowne.

No, it's the actual site of the mall. The article says the parking lots will be developed first, and then followed by redevelopment of the actual mall. The laser tag place moved to Riverport (on the eastern end of Steveston Highway with the movie theatre) quite a while ago.

I remember back in the 90s when there were plans for a Cineplex stadium style theatre on the parcel north of Kwantlen (now condos).

I just hope that Richmond doesn't build a convention centre on the Garden City Lands (like was proposed a while back) - that is the completely wrong place (way too far from the No. 3 Rd. core).

It is well on it's way btw, must be over half way.

Than again, the website only shows initial information. There are not any other towers there I thought.

It has it's own thread here.

This one is moving fast. Looks like they're currently working on the fifth floor already.

Thanks guys. Didn't know that we had an existing thread under a different name.

The whole area is quite unknown to many. I only "found" and visited it for the first time last fall and I have to agree that it is a pretty nice community. Too bad it is so difficult to get to.

Suter Brook towers concept dated January 2015 from the Arno Matis website:

Quote:
Suter Brook - Inlet Centre Station
Port Moody, BC

This design concept completed for Onni at Suter Brook in Port Moody sits adjacent to the new Evergreen line Inlet Centre Skytrain Station. The proposal aims to ‘dematerialize’ each tower against the majestic backdrop of mountains and forest. To this end, the tower is expressed in a contrasting pixilation that recalls dappled forest light through the evergreens, often seen through the trees as a result of the nearby inlet’s foggy mornings.

The proposal is to introduce a materiality that connects to the natural environment that surrounds the site; a materiality that responds to the natural backdrop and context of the area. Monochromatic color schemes along with the use of natural materials both simplifies and unifies the design composition. Contrasting themes are enhanced in the use of colour to define projecting deck slabs. Vertical density is maximized in the form of three towers, while the podium is minimized to reduce density at grade. In this way, the maximum potential can be realized, increasing higher value tower units’ access to views, light and air.

A key design theme is to create a memorable drop off and arrival experience. AMA has proposed a grand drop-off circle paved in concrete pavers, and formally landscaped. The approach is resort-like, providing a sense of tranquility and separation from the village activity.
