Those cities aren't tropical like Vancouver. Vancouver has consistent humid heat in the 30s from April to October, and the wet, humid rainy season in January and February has nighttime lows in the high teens, and it never goes below freezing. That's why palm trees are native to Vancouver.

Those unfortunate coconuts that floated too far north. Like Palm Trees in Scotland or England. From inside with the heat cranked it's it's a nice illusion of a tropical paradise. ��

PS, given that the area of Japan I live in has a very similar winter climate as Vancouver, there are many windmill palms planted around here too, sometimes creates a little piece of home feeling

The cultivated windmill palms in temperate oceanic cities.

With Trump and Shangri-La towering over the rest of the city and sitting right beside each other it kind of strengthens the resemblance to (pre-9/11) Manhattan.

The two tallest vancouver towers completely alter the skyline. I remember the days when the Van skyline was stunted at 150m and was quite boring actually. Now it's got that cool pinnacle effect, and it's easily my favourite skyline in the country.

Those are definitely 2 of the best skyline shots I've seen of Vancouver. Easily it's most flattering vantage point.

Most of the skyline photos of Vancouver are from false creek looking north, this is why they are always so condo heavy. From that angle the City looks less impressive but the mountains are much more imposing. Looking from the North Shore south to the downtown peninsula however is an entirely different story. The skyline feels more fleshed out and looks Larger than it really is. It also has an extremely nice hill effect with an obvious pinnacle that you don't get from the false creek view.

While the Shangri-La and Trump are the obvious two towers that have completely altered the skyline, I also want to point out the nice shape / texture that the MNP Tower has also added from that vantage point.

I'm really fascinated how far drones have come over the last decade.

Too bad towers aren't allowed in Chinatown and the rest of the DTES. With the 550' towers going up west of Shangri-la, the skyline is going to look even more impessive from the North Shore. True skyscrapers around Hastings and Main would make the city look immense.
