Wasn't it part of the transaction with 111 Main? City gave land for CCR to develop the tower, and CCR gave the parking lot to the City? Anyways, I'm not sure how this would have any impact on whether Cascade gets built. That, I believe, would only be dependent on the demand. Like I've said before, they should build that as apartments.

That doesn't sound familiar to me, I'm not saying there wasn't talk, I just don't recall it.

The assessors office shows that the entire block is owned by City Creek Reserve. While it takes some time for records to be updated, sometimes a few months, if it there was any transaction related to 111 and the block, that would have shown up by now.

The city does not own any of that block and did not own the property that 111 S. Main was built upon. The LDS Church owns the block. The Downtown Master Plan may have thoughts of what should happen on the block but it's nothing but an idea at the moment.

Pretty sure City Creek Reserve didn't come into the 111 game until almost at groundbreaking, so the deal was already approved by then, so they wouldn't have given up the land "in order to build it." Was it HP that was the original builders of the tower? I think?

While the official July 1st, 2015 tally that was released earlier this week came in just 4,000 people short of the 3M mark, demographic experts estimate that it was breached sometime in September or October based on recent trends.

That means the number of Beehive State residents now is slightly larger than the population of Chicago.

It is roughly the same as the nation of Mongolia, and just ahead of Armenia, Lithuania and Albania.

The Census estimates that Utah added 51,421 residents between July 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015 — the equivalent of adding a city the size of Murray during that year. It means Utah's population increased by about 141 people every day...

Utah now ranks No. 31 in total population, up from No. 33 last year. It just passed Arkansas and Mississippi.

So there you have it - we leaped ahead of Arkansas and Mississippi, having passed Kansas last year. We also maintained our 100,000+ advantage on Nevada as we gained nearly identical overall figures. The next state we are poised to overtake is Iowa, which should be in the next few years if current trends persist. The following would be Connecticut in about a decade at current rates.

One stat I would like to note in particular is the growth rate: At 1.75%, we exceed the national rate (0.79%) by nearly a hundred basis points. This puts us in the top tier of fastest-growing states in the nation. Another encouraging development is the breadth of growth expanded this year to include more than double the number of out-of-state transplants - who represented anywhere from a third to nearly half of the overall increase (16,000-22,000).

Some concerning developments include: a slow-down in the state's natural rate of increase, an aging population as the death rate edged upward while the birth rate cooled, lingering effects of the recession on the economic ability for many families to rear children. It should be noted, however, that these shifts are certainly not anywhere near problems at this point. We still have the highest fertility rate in the nation and one of the youngest populations. These recent trends are simply bringing us slightly more in line with national trends, which could even be viewed positively as it allows schools and neighborhoods to catch up to the recent population boom.

I just know the basics about the project. I have a .zip of all of the plans for the street itself but as far as specifics like what businesses we can expect to see on the street. The RDA owns three store fronts on the street the rest are owned by the church. There has been talks from Eva's Bakery (which has a back door facing the plaza) either expanding or opening another concept on the second floor of that building that will be accessed from Regent Plaza.

They have started construction on the street itself. Curb and gutter has been removed the mid block access is pretty much there and they have opened up Orpheum Ave.

I'm excited for the project. Fingers crossed for a few good business in on the street and it will be a major draw for downtown. Plus one block becomes four. Yay!

When will one of the 3 designs be chosen for the CCH? Will we get to see the design once it's been selected? Why do they have to be kept a secret? I think we need more public transparency considering that public tax dollars are at stake. In fact there should be a public meeting where the 3 designs are shown and the public is allowed to voice their opinion.

They have to go through their due diligence first. I would estimate this to be about a 6 week process. 2 weeks per proposal.

The proposals while submitted to a public entity are still private until chosen. If the developers/groups that submitted the proposals wants to release the information about their bid, they are able to do this but even if they choose to do this, don't expect anything until after the choice is made.

I do think that they will be quick though as I think everyone would like to get the CCH under construction as fast as possible.

I agree about the public process issue. Though, I don't think these applications included a design other than an explanation and maybe some diagrams along with their qualifications, etc. I wouldn't expect to see a rendered design for another year at least.
