We actually have a pretty detailed and substantial long term plan for everything we plan to do over the next 5-10 years in the city, but that of course requires a lot of things to fall into place.

Would be cool if you hired a local graffiti artist to do some of your murals. There are some good ones in the city.

Thinking something like this with your brand worked in would be cool and urban.

Thanks, we do appreciate all the support! It is important to us to be unique, to offer a high quality product/experience, and to differentiate ourselves in all areas of our business... kinda the whole point of a local business in my opinion, and it is also a lot more fun!

One of the biggest capital projects in Saskatchewan’s history is poised to propel downtown Regina to new heights.

The new home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders is scheduled to be completed by the end of next summer and welcome its first football fans for the 2017 home opener.

The province, the City of Regina and the football club are funding the $278-million project, which is being built just to the west of downtown.

Built just a couple of punts away from the current Mosaic Stadium, is expected to provide a significant boost to the city’s hospitality industry, including hotels, restaurants and pubs.

The new facility, which will maintain the same sponsor and name “Mosaic Stadium,” will have a capacity of 33,000 and be expandable to 40,000 for Grey Cups and major concerts, said Brent Sjoberg, Regina’s deputy city manager and chief operating officer.

If the extra seats are needed on a more regular basis, they can be transformed into permanent seats without much difficulty, he said.

Once the 80-year-old stadium has hosted its last game, it will be bulldozed and redeveloped into a mixed-use site that will include a pathway to the heart of downtown. This “Taylor Field neighbourhood,” it will include retail, commercial and residential.

“It will be a more active area from downtown to the stadium,” Sjoberg said.

That 35,000 figure cited in that story seems high......I've often heard it's more like 20,000 to 25,000. I wonder if them saying 35,000 was an error on their part - that would be the first time I've ever heard it being anywhere near 35,000.

It's really too bad that Sask Drive between Albert and Elphinstone looks like shit, . . especially the north side. The properties along there look like hell and in is perpetually junky. It is unfortunate that the new stadium is located at the end of such abject misery. Conversely, Sask Drive west of Elphinstone is very nice. At least, thank goodness for that.

My hope is that that stretch gets rezoned, or that the stadium brings in a new type of business there. I'd love to see more restaurants/bars/entertainment

You have to remember that the stadium is basically in the same area, so why would a move slightly to the west bring in different businesses?

Added density from the new neighbourhood which will be where the stadium and it's parking lot currently is will help. A pedestrian bridge halfway between Albert and elphinstone in addition to one between Albert and broad would connect the new neighbourhood to cathedral

Such bridges are very expensive and it's essentially a bridge to nowhere. Also the type of neighbourhood, unfortunately, will be seen as more of a liability than a benefit to most commercial enterprises.

The problem with that is basically no retail style businesses want to the on the north side of Sask Drive because access is horrific. Unfortunately the north side will likely be mostly be dead for the foreseeable future. I'd settle for a few blocks of the south side getting and improvement.

Isn't the land on either side of the railway tracks (north of Saskatchewan Drive / south of North Railway Street) owned by CP Rail? IIRC, the businesses located on this property are just leasing the land from the railway, or its property management company (not sure if it is still called Marathon Realty).

My recollection is that the strip on the south side is a mixed bag of ownership. That is some CP, some City and some private. The north side is basically all City owned now from Albert to Elphinstone.

I wish they would plant trees along the tracks as well to add some visual. It would also be nice if the walkway to downtown would pass Albert and connect with the new bridge area across the tracks to connect with the CP Railyard development so that it all would connect.

North side will have the greenway so it is already in the works. The City envisions major arterial commercial type uses on the south side I believe.

The design also fosters and expands on existing community spirit and builds strong connections to surrounding parks and neighborhoods through a proposed linear urban greenway to downtown Regina.
