I obviously don't know all those numbers off by heart. This forum has an extremely extensive database which is a complete highrise record of Canadian cities. I looked at that before responding.

Not sure if it's due to a short rope by the admins or due to maturity with age but I'm liking the new non-boosterish Chadillac!
I haven't been confrontational or boosterish on here in like 6 months or more now, at least nowhere remotely close to what I used to be. Wasn't anything to do with admins, I just realized that rude people aren't worth getting worked up over. I'm on here because I love urban development, and I enjoy seeing the development of Canadian cities and showing the people on here the rapid development of Calgary and the other cities I visit. Life is tough enough without being an angry person online.

Now here's some pretty pictures...

I would argue Calgary and Van have become the most "humble" cities within the Canada section considering there continues to be 3 to 4 times the amount of construction across the inner-city in cgy relative to edm, and even much more so
in Van and that you hardly hear a peep related to project updates and proposals from either of these two cities. Contrast that with the repetitive hourly/daily posts you get covering the same handful of projects from edm posters.

So posting updates/being proud of developments in your city is being a show-off?

Not to mention the architecture of our buildings being significantly nicer on average. I love Edmonton as a city, so I'm sorry, but why would you start that? The differences in skyline are beyond comparison. Even in a historic boom for Edmonton, Calgary has 35 towers UC to Edmonton's 17.
Take a joke for once Calgary, your belt and bolo tie be too tight again.

I guess that makes Hamilton unhumble for getting excited over every little thing?

Plus I dunno... Posting the same pictures every two months because there are no new ones to show, and hoping everyone has forgotten about them counts as boosterism in my books...

Okay, good...I was gong to comment that it was obviously in jest.... The humour of the joke is that next to nobody would suggest that Edmonton has a more impressive skyline than Calgary.....

By the way everyone reacted I thought maybe I had missed something.

Nope.

As much as I enjoy watching people from Calgary argue with people from Edmonton over who has the better and/or most different skyline, you guys do have to admit that to the untrained eye the similarities are striking.

The shapes, orientations of the downtowns and adjacent rivers as viewed from the air are uncanny. Even the bridges seem to cross at almost identical spots.

And once Edmonton gets its new crop of tall towers (including the Stantec Tower, which will be the tallest tower in Canada outside of Toronto), the course-grain similarities will be even greater.

I'd trade half the cranes for the LRT system you guys are getting... or the Ti-Cats

They're just different now, which is kind of cool. Calgary's is exceptionally colourful and Po-Mo, with weird shapes and textures. Buildings that immediately come to mind are the Bow, Banker's Hall, the Calgary Tower, the Saddledome, and those two towers that are supposed to resemble mountains (EAP?).

Edmonton's still seems solidly grounded in the 1960s, with a lot of right angles and stoic ornamentation, and a higher proportion of older buildings overall. Buildings that come to mind are the CN Tower, Manulife (?) Place, the TD Bank, those reddish federal government buildings, the Telus Tower, the Macdonald Hotel, and maybe the Butterdome (I realize it's not downtown, but it's immediately recognizable in wider aerials). It's not as distinctive, but does a good job of looking "Classic Post-War North American" (maybe even the best?), while Calgary's is a bit more out-there. (Just in general, of course)

I also got the impression that part of Edmonton's downtown is on a slope, while Calgary's is all flat. This also makes the skylines a bit "different" (although the effect is muted from above)
