Toronto really? That's interesting. I can see the Winnipeg comparisons but at the same time there's more height than Winnipeg

It felt like a similar style of office towers I suppose and a more general new-ness to the downtown. The Winnipeg similarity is definitely a lot stronger than the Toronto one, but there was just enough to notice it. It's hard to place my finger on it exactly, but I know when I scroll quickly past the skyline I sometimes think it's a strange angle of Toronto, and when I visited there was a bit of a Toronto CBD feel in the Edmonton CBD (though obviously smaller).

The most similar feeling cities in Canada that I've visited seem to be Toronto and Vancouver in my opinion though.

What city do you find Halifax feels most similar to?

I haven't actually had a chance to go east of Montreal.

From the pictures I would guess a little like Thunder Bay, but mostly its own distinct thing like Regina or Victoria.

Toronto. It's the financial centre of Nova Scotia plus it's the capital and largest city of the province it's in. It also has all of Nova Scotia's tallest skyscrapers.

No better comparable than Toronto IMO!

I'm glad to know you value my opinion . . . or really like to push Halifax tourism.

The big issue is that I tend to be doing school when I'm in Ottawa, so don't have much time off, and the inter-city bus system changes like 3 times going that way so booking a trip seems more complicated.

Big no to intercity bus service. Not complicated, but too cramped and too pricey. If you can't rent or borrow a car, why not just go on kijiji and catch a lift with someone? Lots of ridehsare options and you'd be splitting the cost so it's cheaper.

A plane is the best option if you're time constrained though. You can rent a car once you get here.

Halifax is also I believe the only city in Canada except for Toronto to have an express-collector lane system on one of its freeways! Vindication!

I don't have a driver's licence, so no renting cars, flying is basically a rip off when you're in Canada (and I'm a poor student), and I don't know how much I'd trust ride sharing with a stranger off the internet.

Metro-Van now has a short 3km long C/D system over the new Port Mann Bridge, not sure if that counts... Also I find it hard to believe that with all of the freeways in Quebec there are no C/D systems in Montreal or Quebec City.

I've done it several times and always had a positive experience, but of course it's up to each person to determine what feels comfortable with for himself.

A short stretch of the 118 in Dartmouth.

Oooh, on the one side where there's an entrance/exit really close together to reduce merging conflict. Yeah I go through there quite often. That can't be that rare though? There's at least one example like that I can think of in Quebec City on route 440 and I'm sure there must be more.

Anyway, I am just trying to get WhipperSnapper and Mistercorporate's goat. But they're not biting tonight. Maybe they have me on ignore!

I don't know Iceland. It very well could be. That's the whole lunacy of comparing cities of nations with a population differences by a factor of ten. If you are going to play this game than, there is no other city that compares to Toronto than New York (as much as you want to believe Toronto is some bland, corporate town like Houston than envies the cultural offerings of Quebec.)

Since I've never actually said that, I guess your ability to read inside my mind is quite impressive!

BTW, whatever happened to your Prince Charles avatar? I rather liked it. Very fitting!

I don't find any city in Canada has the feel of Toronto, but I also feel the same for Montreal and Vancouver. They just have their own feel. Toronto feels like New York, and looks like Chicago.
