Regent St is on it's way to being a legitimate street, mid block connections are being made, the city is multi-modal, the Farmers Market is nearly year round, Central 9th is developing. We are close to having a new developer stepping up for a CCH. North Temple is starting to see a little bit of life (yes slow, but it's starting), a new net zero energy airport is under construction, we have a new net zero public safety building, we have new libraries, an active restaurant and night life scene.

Sounds pretty — to me.
But but but but but if we don't have a lesbian as a mayor then our city is "—".

Dumb and Dumber

"The only other bright side is that she is a lesbian and now when we have the congress of families or whatever ignorant anti LGBT — generating press in town the New York Times can be like "But hey they also elected a lesbian so I guess SLC isn't two dimensional."

What a stupid comment....putz.....

They could get creative with it. Give Quinn Snyder the ability to change the temperature of the arena from his smartphone during a game. Have displays built in to all seats so fans can check in on their house while they're at the game. Have a 'Flat-brimmed hat' day with free Vivint snapbacks for first 5000 people.

And last, but not least, replace all banners in arena with pictures of the legend himself.

This may be terribly late..... But I wanted to say, I wish there was another observation deck in SL. The one in the COB only faces north, away from the skyline, and the Salt Lake Valley as a whole, too bad we don't have a better one... Just throwing that out there.

Also, Hello Forum! I've been following for a long time, and finally decided to start posting. I'll be in from time to time.

Hi as promised I wanted to provide an update on our project. As most of you are aware, our original development was named the AIR URBAN CENTER (AUC). We are now adding a large amount of class A office space in our podium to house all corporate, licensing and sales functions for a new technology/entertainment company I founded last year in Utah called THE VOID. Because of this decision and due to the massive exposure we have received worldwide, especially in Asian markets (which BTW has aided in our capital raising efforts for this project) we have decided to rename AUC as - THE VOID CORPORATE CENTER (VCC). Thousands of publications worldwide have written/reported about THE VOID since we released information about our business plan and technology. For more information visit: http://www.thevoid.com.

I’m also very excited to announce our Hotel Flag! We have chosen the THOMPSON HOTEL brand (Commune Hotel Group) as our partner. This is one of the most exciting hotel operators in the US. Their amenities, style and operational excellence is second to none. It took a while to get Commune excited about the SLC market, but after much effort SLC and our VCC will be the next home to a shiny new THOMPSON HOTEL. Commune has opened several new THOMPSON HOTELS in markets such as NYC, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, etc. with much fanfare. Although SLC is a smaller market than the typical gateway cities which Commune has built their recent hotels, after much due-diligence/research, they agreed with our perspective that SLC is about to experience a development boom. Dozens of out of state technology companies are moving into Utah, as well as many home grown companies expanding (THE VOID being one of them including a large development campus/studio). This is going to continue to fuel the growth and development of downtown SLC. SLC is very much under serviced concerning hotel options and rooms. Also more development is needed in areas of food & beverage, nightlife and of course housing within the city. For more information about the THOMPSON HOTEL brand visit: http://www.thompsonhotels.com.

VCC will house the same amenities as planned in the original AUC with the exception of the additional corporate office space. The components of our mixed use project is as follows:

Class A Office Space (Primary Tenant - THE VOID)
Urban Styled Hotel (247 Rooms - THOMPSON HOTEL)
Exclusive Residential Condos (Amazing Views of SLC/Mountains/Lake)
2 Restaurants/Lounges (Expect something great!)
Pool Side Club & Asian Gardens (Podium Rooftop Level - Includes Outdoor Event Space)
Massive Nightclub
Quick Spa & Fitness Center (Hotel & Residential Guests)
Event & Meeting Space(s)
Convenient Ski/Snowboard Lockers

There are several additional/unique features/services to our mixed use project.

We still have more work to do, but we are hopeful that construction will start by the spring of 2016. Construction is expected to last between 20 to 24 months. I will continue to post additional information/details, images, etc. as I’m able.

On a personal note … I hope you share in my excitement for this great project. This is been more work and frankly time/money/effort than I could have ever anticipated. Our entire team was extremely dedicated (we never gave up). As mentioned we still have some small parts to wrap up, but VCC is going up soon!

Cheers, Ken

Welcome, former lurker!

...and I agree about the observation deck thing. Rooftop bars would be legit.

The Regent Street Hotel will have a roof top bar accessible by the public once it's built. It will have great views in all directions. Speaking of bars, Avenues Proper is opening a brewpub on Main Street between 800 and 900 South. It's still a few months away but will be a great addition to an area that could use some love.

That's what I thought I remembered, but was too lazy to scroll back like one page.

I know a lot of people dismiss Jackie and maybe they're right. But I had a conversation with my mom a few weeks ago and asked her who she had voted for in the election. She had voted for Becker in the two previous elections, so, I didn't know if she planned on voting against him.

What ultimately helped her decide was an actual visit from Jackie. In all the eight years, three elections (primary and general), Becker never once knocked on her door. Jackie did and she liked her. She liked how personable she was and how engaged she was.

Sometimes retail politics works. Becker has been mayor for eight years and he's been nearly as absent these last four years as Deedee was in her last four.

I hope Jackie is as engaged as she was in this campaign.

I think that's totally fair. I have to admit with the — storm brewing because of the double down on gay marriage that the LDS Church did yesterday, I think she already proved herself to be very different from Rocky Anderson. I was very impressed with her dignified response.

I hope as I get to know her she keeps impressing me, mostly on issues that involve making Salt Lake City a world class city.

Those Central 9th Lofts are a fantastic project, situated right between the 9th S and Ballpark Trax Stations. I think it will add some much needed density to the neighborhood and will be a nice compliment to the existing town homes on W temple just a street south. I like that they are incorporating the existing alley into the building, telling they area of the neighborhood to the north that they aren't trying to exclude them or ignore them.

I hope the redevelopment continues to occur in both directions, towards both stations. Ball Park and Central 9th, could be really cool neighborhoods. Lets be honest, except for a few houses and the town homes on W. Temple the area north of the ballpark station sure could use some help.

I can understand why your Mom would vote for Jackie after receiving a visit from her, but to imply that Becker is somehow remiss because he didn't visit your mother is nonsense.

With approximately 80,000 housing units in the city, it's basically impossible for any political candidate to visit every home. It would take weeks, if not months just to hit 5% of those homes. I know Becker knocked on doors for weeks in every election, but you can only get to so many houses.

Getting a visit from a political candidate is akin to winning the jackpot on slots in Wendover. It rarely happens.

I don't expect Becker to go door-to-door...but he's been largely absent overall.

I guess he'll now have plenty of time for his pet projects.
