Just noticed a big new neon sign on the former DIX on Beatty - for Red Racer beer.

Ya it's been a Central City Brewpub for a month or so now. Was in town early september and checked it out. Great space inside, and the food/beer is good if not great.

Definitely some demo going on.

I saw a small caterpillar loading debris from the basement in the alley today.

It's simple, and with colours that aren't over-done in Van. I'm a fan.

PS - 100 posts! Look out!

There's a full page ad in today's edition of the Globe and Mail (page S5) with a picture of an interior of one of the higher units with an English Bay view.

Yeah, I know someone who went to see a presentation about the units and they are indeed over 1 million dollars and apparently have small rooms. Not sure how a very generic tower like this can think it can think to get a way with such prices.

Probably the views? Smallest units are 989 square feet, which isn't that small.

Views may be good for now but I can see the other buildings around the jervis getting redevolped. The one right to the west looks like it would go up in flames in a second, all wood cladding. Looks like a shit hole. (Kinda makes me picture what the proposed art gallery will look like lil)

I have a better appreciation now for the painstaking work being done on Waterfront Station. According to the information on the sign (last pic below), it sounds like they are taking the walls apart piece by piece and putting them back together again after treating and repairing the corroding steel underneath.

The first pic below was from earlier this year. The rest are from today.

So after a long period of inactivity I have updated the Vancouver thread in the City Compilations sub-forum. If anyone wants to take the time to look through and point out any omissions or out-of-date status info, I would appreciate it.

Although I am already aware that I left out Trump, and that excavation is underway for The Duke.

The roofline of 308 West Hastings lines up exactly now with the old Pappas Furs building.

Incredible! Thank you for all the hard work.

Here's a few that came to mind:

The Ridge (u/c) - Arbutus & 16th
Maple (?) - 10th and Arbutus Railway ROW
Northwest - Marine Drive & Cambie
MC2 - Marine Drive & Cambie

Also there's a bunch of stuff along the Cambie corridor, the names for which I don't know.

Another open house tomorrow about the proposed park at Smithe/Richards. Click on the link to Vin's post to see previous discussion about it back in June.

Smile smithe & richards park

Grrrreat !!! I'm all for more downtown green space, and look forward to this becoming a reality.
I just hope it's brightly lit up (with maybe a surveillance camera). Not being a negativist, not at all, but there's always the risk of it becoming another "needle park" or such,
and I know that nobody here wants that to happen. This is a positive step.

Thanks!

More info here:

http://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/smithe-and-richards-park-past-updates.aspx

In the summary of responses to the June open house - it says that participants strongly supported the following funding opportunities: hidden parking under the park, food and rentable event space.

Good to hear that underground parking is an option, as that would be a prime opportunity to level the site and hide the alley-side loading areas of the 889 Homer building from view.

Also would be nice to be able to retain the car2go and evo parking spots they have at the current lot

How are those funded in general? I assume those companies pay for them, correct? If so, then I don't see a problem them being kept as long as they are just ready to pay for them.
