Gotcha. I agree: short-term lost profits would be reasonable to compensate for.
Most stunning part of Sept 28 City Council discussion was Administration's response to a Councillor's question about how long until the bridge removal... "days" was the response.
Days?! - with no City Council approval, and the closure only formally published (as required by law) on Sept 19th?
The Eastgate businesses' lawyer properly pointed out that this hardly passes the good-faith sniff test. Basically backed the businesses into a corner - "
you want Vic Ave widened & the construction over, right? Well - if we don't remove the bridge, that's all going to take longer."
Riiiiiiiight... or the City could have planned this mess out better, and consulted properly months ago.
Luckily, a majority of Councillors weren't swayed by the not-so-veiled threat.
