LOL - what do you figure the announcement will be?

a) new construction fencing
b) emptying the porta-potty
c) another round of blaming someone else (typically gov't or utility) for the delays

Anyone else watch City Council last night? (read: anyone else have no life)

The property owner of the land around Eastgate (with Robin's, Creekside, etc on it) said they were planning a $40million development in the area, which they would have to reconsider if Eastgate is closed. They mentioned a new hotel.

Likely a fair bit of bluster to underscore their position that closing Eastgate is a flawed decision...but interesting nonetheless.

For what it's worth, here's the report from CBC this morning:

There's nothing but an empty lot at the corner of Albert Street and Victoria Avenue,
but next week construction will begin on the Capital Pointe development. (Dean Gutheil/CBC)

Construction will start next week on long-delayed Capital Pointe project

Construction on a long-delayed condo project at the crossroads of two key streets in Regina will start next week, officials say.

The Capital Pointe development at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Albert Street was supposed to be one of the province's tallest buildings and was supposed have tenants as early as 2013.

However, since the old Plains Hotel was demolished in 2011, the site has been an empty lot.

Now, developers say they're ready to proceed. Officials gave the media an update Tuesday at the site.

They told reporters the condo-hotel project will take 32 months to complete.

They've cried wolf too many times, I won't believe it until there are actually people moving into suites.

On a brighter note, I drove by the motel that's under reconstruction on the corner of Albert and Parliament and it's coming along swimmingly. I wasn't sure that construction 2.0 was going to happen after the first crack at building that motel sat there rotting for a year.

It's nice to see the progress happening downtown in terms of street life. I was back in town recently and it is noticeably different than what it was 5 years ago.

Atlantis would be great in that location next to malt city. I'm looking forward to seeing how west-downtown changes over the next few years. Hopefully that namerind proposal (if it gets built) has a good podium design for it's grocery store.

That headline should have read "Atlantis will be back to having two locations again" as most remember their original location:

Despite going to Campbell & working in the south end, I completely forgot about that location!

I would have thought directly across the foyer from Malt City would make more sense from a business point of view. The space is unoccupied.

J&A is still there. I noticed they are renovating the space opposite Malt City (most recently occupied by She Lingerie).
