I like it. Nine Signs over three blocks. I also like the varying height and shapes of the signs so as to defy uniformity. The bright randomness of the signs is what adds streetscape excitement.

New thread created - uCity Square

Created a thread for this to follow the development of the new site by University City Science Center and Wexford Science and Technology. If different towers are going to be built at different times (which I expect they will) I will split the thread then.

Not to mention Penn already having their South Bank project underway along the Schuylkill in south philly.

I would love both to happen, and happen quickly, it just makes me wonder if both happening will rob the other of ever reaching their full built out vision.
This was always going to happen first. It's far easier to do some demo and build on parking lots than it is ever going to be to build out over the rail yards. I still think the other will happen, because of location, location, location -- but it has always been on a longer time frame.

This is crude, but I outlined the highlighted buildings from the rendering that is the proposed development. You can see that the surrounding buildings match up quite nicely; there are few of the filler buildings that I think we are expecting.

I think they're doing a good job figuring out ways to break up the bland expanse of the Gallery's hulking facade. Now about that cumbersome name change....

Not in Center City. 20th and Walnut - Apple. Broad and Spruce - Stella Artois. 30th and Arch - Yahoo. Subway platforms - AT&T, ESPN, Coca-Cola. SEPTA bus stands - Verizon, Universal Pictures. Really it depends on who sells the ad-space, but if you get a proper national player - with the eyeball demographics in place on ME - and the quality of the actual display - the only people who will be able to afford the buys will be larger brands.

I'm assuming you're referencing the LIT signage - I'd give it time though.

The Divine Lorraine groundbreaking is happening now. Apparently the line is so long to get in it's wrapping around the building.

Just had a thought about the FMC tower. I noticed the 2 cranes from my bldg in Old City. It's clearly visibly west of Center City. When completed, this building will add some balance from the N-S axis, at least from the vantage point that I have. It will be in the company of Comcast Center, Liberty 1 & 2, Mellon Bank Center, and the PSFS bldg.

[QUOTE=jsbrook;7161339]Hey, Summers. What's the factual basis for this? I've been corresponding with Mark Vergnano and others at Chemours about relocating here. I would send something along if there's something other than renders I can send (though I'm sure they already know; I think they are in discussions with the administration and developers at all of the areas they are looking at).[/QUOTE

From today's News Journal/delawareonline.com

The vibe definitely seems to be that Chemours is moving (very sad for Wilmington), but could be a big gain for Philly -

An article in today's inquirer about land acquisition for the DE river trail mentions that a plot of land that was owned by the sheetmetal workers' union was sold earlier this year and new owner plans mixed use development on the site. No word on the vacant foxwoods lot eyesore.

sounds like camden is pushing as well

If they move to either philly or camden, it's a win for philly. more jobs we can take from delaware and move to Center City or 15 min radius (camden, navy yard, u city) the better

I drew lines to separate buildings along Market since the roofs shows seem to blend multiple buildings into one giant one. (This is really evident where 3600 joins the shorter structures on the east side of 36th and where 3535 joins 3501.) I also marked existing buildings with blue/purple dots.

As for new construction, on the south side of Market, there's a new 3400 Market and new buildings west of 38th. On the north side, there is the new building that will be built after 37th Street is re-opened. All of the other new stuff is north of Filbert on the former school lot.

The two yellow dots mark construction sites (although the render of 3400 Lancaster is the old two-story Hess Labs and not the much taller Summit). The buildings at the red dots do not exist, but that's OK since the focus of this render is the white-topped buildings.

I saw that. Here is the article and quote:

Quote:
K4 chief executive Jeffery Kozero said the trail would be a welcome addition to the mixed-use project that his company plans near the river, which would include residential units, shops, and restaurants. The company will soon begin seeking permits for the project, aiming to break ground as soon as June, Kozero said. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/201509...it_needs_to_build_a_S__Phila__trail.html
It was dropped in at the end of the article, an easy one to miss. The article doesn't specify where exactly the acquired land for the trail is located but the Sheetmetal union building is located just south of Washington Ave.

As I said in the One Water Street thread, to be successful, the project must be dense, have a retail component, and be set right on the street (i.e., not set back behind a long driveway, parking lot, or gate). It will be tall order in this location. Whereas the northern and central parts of Delaware Ave is sort of a blank slate, the southern end, loaded with big box retail, is extremely car oriented.
