Is the target date for ground breaking still early 2016?

Central 9th and Granary Row developments

I decided to compile an aerial map with all of the recent and new developments in the area.

Very nice, I look forward to seeing how the neighborhood evolves over the next few years.

Has anyone been to the Rite Aid that's Part of City Creek?! It's all redone and nice now. I was pleasantly surprised.

The Planning Commission approved the design and additional height for the Regent Street Hotel last night at their meeting. I can't comment on a groundbreaking date but I would be surprised to see work commencing the first quarter of 2016. Generally, with projects like this they do not even have their financing lined up yet as they are waiting for their approval for the design first. They will begin shopping the project to financiers, they will need to complete building/structural plans for the project and then submit them for review by the city. Completing the plans will take a few months and the review on a project this substantial will take 4 to 6 months easily. So, in my opinion, I think it's far more reasonable to assume that they will not start moving dirt until the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2016.

Got it! So I'll plan on seeing it on Shark Tank first. And then by the time they do the one year after follow up, they will do it from the ground breaking ceremony...

Thanks for the info, UTPlanner! Any updates you know of concerning 151 on State? I'm kinda expecting that to be the first proposed tower that we see break ground.

...and if Eat A Burger happened to burn down, that wouldn't speed up that timeline at all?

I know of some homeless people who flock like seagulls to popcorn out around the State Liquor Store near Pioneer Park; I could start buying them bottles of cheap vodka and earn their affection. When it gets colder I could convince them to "try and stay warm" in that building...

Just give me the word...

Oh, I'd give the word to myself. I'm from Kearns. I've got this.

I mean hypothetically...

Here is the post on the Regent Street Hotel. I really like the new design over the old one. Form Development is making their mark, they are architects of the proposed four-story apartment building in Central Ninth that I wrote about Tuesday.

I prefer the original design.

It's a subtle difference. From SL City News: "Developers submitted an updated design to the Planning Commission after receiving criticism that the original design of the balconies made the building feel top heavy."

(see page 179 of this thread for the original design, and slcitynews for the new one)

I definitely prefer the updated version of the Regent Street Hotel. I agreed with the planner that reviewed the project from the beginning-- it just appeared to be off balance and top heavy.

I have not heard anything about 151 State Street. The Boyer Company seemed so gung ho last year but have not moved at all recently. I don't know this for a fact but they may be waiting for 111 S. Main to make an actual announcement about their future tenants before moving forward.

I have heard some interesting information about future development surrounding the Salt Lake Hardware Building at North Temple and 400 West. The owners of the property want to develop the block as residential and office. The proposed plans are rough at the moment but it would include extending 500 West under the viaduct and connecting it with 400 West. I know it's a small effort but that alone should help the Gateway a bit. There are not a lot of specifics yet on the project but it's great to see something move forward albeit slowly on those large existing parking lots on the block.

As I predicted a couple of weeks ago... Gameworks at gateway is gone already.

Were they even open a year? I walked there with my kid shortly after it opened and I was the only person there... On a Friday night. Not surprising at all.

Seriously. The gateway deserves to be empty if they keep lacking vision.
