sure, I know, but what I meant was that Quebec city has been built up over centuries and a lot of its architecture preserved. When you take cities that have similar characters - say, cities that have been around since the 1600s/1700s in North east, you will see a lot of similarities.

Yeah, sure, Cleveland is very similar to QC in some ways, but it really only start to grow after the mid 1800s.

Yup, but I guess it also depends on how developed our taste in architecture are. Some people are really good at it, knowing what kind of materials are used locally, and subtle characteristics of certain areas.

I was gonna say this too. There are very narrThow streets in Europe but there is no standard width.

The last time I was in Paris I stayed near here, and this is in the heart of the city.

The big difference is Canada tore down more or had more gaps to begin with. I suppose in the end Toronto and Hamilton are like Dublin meets Cincinnati or something.

It also seems that the Scottish cities are more like Montreal than they are Toronto or Hamilton.

Hamilton and Toronto, on the other hand, are quite similar in terms of housing vernacular but Hamilton does more of what you show in the 4th link (which I like and is more similar to the Dublin examples).

Yeah, they're not perfect (except that one intersection I stumbled on in Dublin streetview and then lost. It looked almost exactly like Hamilton or Toronto's historic bits.)

One thing Toronto has different is lots of those buildings with one floor of brick and then fancy roof design. Hamilton has a few of those, but is more dominated by taller residential that's a bit less tightly packed.

A friend posted a painting she did for a friend who moved to Vancouver.

Anyone know where this is? Or have a picture of that view? I want to see it. I love the old shit, and there's lots of it in the foreground. I want to see what this really looks like. Could be similar to Back Bay and DT Boston behind. It'd have to be a gorgeous view of VAN.

Looks like that could be Yaletown. I stayed near there on my last visit.

Oh yeah, that looks like the old parts. Thank you!!! I'd kill for a view from that or a comparable balcony though, just to have the new buildings in the scene too, and from a higher angle.
