What is a "Japanese style hostess club," ... hmmm?

Hostess club is very different than what you are thinking. These simply have hostesses sit with you, drink, snack, play dice games or just hang out.

Very popular ^in japan.

Just showed a west-facing suite in Patina to a client and was warning him about Nelson On-The-Park, now the potential 1070 Barclay development, glad he didn't purchase as he was buying for the views. Patina residents stand to lose most of their north-west views if both of these happen.

You'll only get this allowable height east of Thurlow and north of Robson, the rest of the West End will be have more conservative heights and densities. Agreed tho, most of the 3 storey walk-ups are likely at the end of their useful life, many have giant bulges on the side and seem to be falling apart.

It looks like there is something actually starting to happen at the Ormidale Block now. To see more renders, click on Prometheus' post link.

Hopefully the City is using a strategy starting from east of Thurlow, making potential buyers think that their views are forever protected, to go tall. Then as investors start snapping up properties there, the next phase would be to upzone the area just west of Thurlow and gradually migrate towards English Bay. Knowing the Nimby attitude of many of the Westenders, I think the City has to do it phase by phase in order to keep protests to the minimum. People are going to get used to really tall buildings once some are already in place, because additional ones would then start to "fit in" the neighbourhood. Again, hopefully this is what's in store.

i see Colliers also has the listing for 1080 Barclay (the Capri on the corner of Thurlow) - sales terms are the same as 1070.

I was thinking about these trees. The leaves are dying but I'm sure the trees themselves aren't dead. They'll probably come back fine next spring?

The same species around the corner on Hamilton (shadier side) are still green.
These particular trees (south facing) do tend to dry up before the other side and do come back, but they've gone brown much earlier than in previous years - and I only just noticed them today - despite the fact I walk past almost every day.
It seems like they went brown overnight.

The rhodos below the trees are also severely wilted.

Do they still have that $6 takeout window? That was some good drunk food back in the day.

Correction: It's $5, everyday till 3am: Pretty much the only place in this city, country or world that hasn't seen any inflation, like, forever.

Would actually like to see the ground retail taller with more stone/masonry/concrete like the current restaurant, and mirroring the Scotia Dance Centre across the street. The new building doesn't look grand for that intersection, and more suitable for mid-block, IMO.

Also, hope they have more set back on the Davie side since it is quite a bottleneck with the bus shelter. A chamfer at the structure corner would make the area look and feel better too.
