There's already a thread for whining about height and view cones, please take the discussion there.

Steam plant proposals

http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Twi...ancouver+steam+plant/11192947/story.html

Any updates of these two towers? I like the fact that one tower will be residential and the other office/commercial. Being on top of the "cliff", they are going to be pretty visible from the east. Hopefully we can see the renderings soon. A little disappointed that viewcones would limit the heights to 20 stories, which itself is an abomination.

Heard that there will be some kind of open house next month for Westbank's tower project on the church site, so we should finally be able to see a design.

Just imagine if there would be three 180 meter towers going up pretty much the same time in one block!

When you say, "church site," do you mean a property adjacent to a church, or the demolition of a church itself? (sorry, I live in Paris....)

I don't know the details, but I think it involves preservation of the existing church and development of the adjacent lands to the West.

They mean the parking lot next to the church.

that was the point I was clumsily making when I queried about the timing of Nelson on the Park, the church building and the project that is brewing in the 1000 block of Barclay - it's going to be chaotic.

Now for something small - reminds me of the Ingledew's reno on Granville.

Demolished lot between the Romansque Royal Bank on Hastings @ Granville and the Princess Building.

Princess Building - that's a lovely name for the monstrosity that sits there.

I though the tower under planning for that corner would have consumed this tiny lot, but apparently not. Shame.

It is indeed a shame when the continuity of a downtown street is broken by a lot too small to develop.
A similar thing is happening next door to The Exchange, and it will look a bit bitty and tacky when The Exchange is up.

I keep hearing this sentiment on these boards, and I couldn't disagree more.

Smaller lots break-up the monotony of large new developments, creating a more varied, active streetscape. Think about how much more interesting the Telus Garden block of Richards will be thanks to the presence of the Kingston Hotel.

In this case, we're not getting a particularly interesting building on the small lot, which is a shame, since I've seen 9-10 storey buildings on similarly narrow lots in a streetwall.

Agree 100% with BodomReaper. I love orphaned properties and fine textures city walls. They make the street far more interesting and they actually allow for non-chain / non-sterile businesses to exist. No button thrift stores or Japanese style hostess clubs opening up in our new tower developments.
