From what I see on the third picture from the ones posted above, the international terminal checkin in desks will be similar to current AC domestic checkin desks. These desks have the agent standing in the open with bag belt to the side and computer on a swivel to allow for the pax to see the computer screen.

I am not a big fan of completely automated bag drop. There are a lot of tricks to getting bag tags into the proper placement. For example, while most get the big bar codes appropriately placed, there are 1-3 smaller bar codes that are stuck onto the side of the bags. These smaller bard codes are frequently missed during self scan process. There is also the need for Star Alliance priority tags.

The biggest quirk against automated bag drop is the checked bag fee. On the surface checked bag fee is an easy charge because its flat rate; however the complications start with frequent flyer status, continue with codeshare flights through to credit card affiliations, and end with multitude of exempt equipment.

The poeple most likely to learn and use automated bag drop are frequent flyers, however they have separate priority checkin facilities that are required to the fully staffed with knowledgeable agents just to remain competitive.

Interesting, my one goal during air travel is to interact with as few people (this is not related to the employees rather waiting in lines drives me nuts) as possible, having an automated bag drop means that all the special cases go elsewhere and the line to drop a bag is shorter. I have three desired modes for air travel: sitting at the gate, sitting on the plane (in the air), and exiting the airport. I endeavor to do whatever I can to make the time in between those modes as short as possible.

Another delay has been posted, so YYZ-YYC ops will not start until September 5th.

WestJet once again revised planned Boeing 767 service inaugural, which sees another 2-week delay. Planned inaugural on Toronto – Calgary route is now scheduled on 05SEP15, instead of planned 17AUG15. The following is planned operational schedule from 08SEP15 to 29SEP15.

WS655 YYZ0900 – 1112YYC 76W D
WS668 YYC1300 – 1836YYZ 76W D

The WS AB-Hawaii operation starts December 11 and requires ETOPS approval. ETOPS Approval requires minimum 90 days of operational testing. We are looking at one week buffer BEFORE WS will have to start delaying AB-Hawaii.

Just do carryon only and skip the bag drop and checkin lines altogether. I always carryon and wife and kid use a suitcase that 2 times the volume of a carryon. Before the kid, wife and I mostly used carryon, with trips to Europe being the exception.

If bookings for the 763 Hawaii flights are doing really well they'll need a plan to start shuttling those pax onto other flights via YVR or perhaps a quick wet-lease of metal to operate the route for the first bit.

At this point if I was booking YYC-Hawaii in December or even January I'd probably look to another option before the WS 763 non-stops. No doubt they are gonna have some kinks, operational being the one you'd worry most about causing lost holiday time.

Just got our first sorta official Westjet 767 delivery email. Aug 25. CWF-YYC N324BC is the registration and will be flown by Boeing crew.
