Any truth to the rumour that GSE for the 763 has not arrived and that tAC teams have not been fully trained?

That I don't know, but the plan has always been that the 767 would stay in YYC for at least a week for various departments (incl. TAC) to do training on it.

Hmm, surprising all these small delays, and yes, I know we're only talking about a matter of weeks and part of the reason is late delivery. Still, it doesn't seem to fall into the Westjet "can-do" mantra. Unless I'm mistaken, Encore started up on time, and that was a significantly larger undertaking.

TBH though, probably better to start in September anyways when the terminal is less congested.

This may be premature, but any guesses where it will gate for domestic ops? Can a 767 park anywhere or only at certain A gates? 13 and 14 come to mind but that's just because I'm used to seeing KL/DE/BA/LH/AT widebodies there. I would guess they'd prefer to gate it at the end of the pier (17/19/20) and not take up one of the international (13/14) gates?

Aside from 13 and 14, I've only seen widebody domestic flights in the A concourse at gate 17.

Illinois. Borders on Iowa and the metro area is made up of four medium sized cities. It's a through flight via ORD. UA3503 travels MLI-ORD-YYC so the FIDS shows both.

Has anybody seen (or could anybody put together) the flight tracks of the cloud seeding flights in Tuesday afternoon's storm? I'm curious to see what they do in the face of a storm that big.

Anyone know if any of the airlines have plans to put in the automated baggage check in machines similar to those that KLM has in AMS?

Westjet had those in Halifax, I think. Worked OK, until my bag was 50.2lbs. Normally that would get ignored, but I had to get an override before ti took my bag. No big deal and everything else went well.

My understanding is no automated bag drop facilities for new terminal.

From what I see on the third picture from the ones posted above, the international terminal checkin in desks will be similar to current AC domestic checkin desks. These desks have the agent standing in the open with bag belt to the side and computer on a swivel to allow for the pax to see the computer screen.

I am not a big fan of completely automated bag drop. There are a lot of tricks to getting bag tags into the proper placement. For example, while most get the big bar codes appropriately placed, there are 1-3 smaller bar codes that are stuck onto the side of the bags. These smaller bard codes are frequently missed during self scan process. There is also the need for Star Alliance priority tags.

The biggest quirk against automated bag drop is the checked bag fee. On the surface checked bag fee is an easy charge because its flat rate; however the complications start with frequent flyer status, continue with codeshare flights through to credit card affiliations, and end with multitude of exempt equipment.

The poeple most likely to learn and use automated bag drop are frequent flyers, however they have separate priority checkin facilities that are required to the fully staffed with knowledgeable agents just to remain competitive.

Goes down to access a new pedestrian tunnel (underneath the arrivals roadway) which connects to Parkade P2. Pax will be able to get to and from the International Terminal and P2 via this tunnel or a new +30 (double height +15), eliminating the need to cross 6-8 lanes of departures or arrivals level active roadway.

A new elevator tower is under construction to connect this tunnel to all levels of P2, which in and of itself it a major (read: multi-million $$) project that almost nobody knows about. See poorly lit picture below.

(will probably end up being used for some amount of cart storage as well, tho not intentionally)

I like the use of wood panels. Very similar to what was recently done in Saskatoon and Vancouver. A new trend in Canadian airports? It is a bit warmer than what Pearson Terminal 1.
