Same thought crossed my mind, too. The cargo on all those overseas heavies can't be understated, and how it can boost the revenue potential on each route. I haven't checked but I always thought that YMX (dedicated container/parcel distribution centre) used to beat YUL, at least until recently.

Looks like quite a number of people are still flying YEG-YYC-AMS or vice versa despite YEG's new direct, which is not daily.

Where one door closes, another opens.

Yes, both business and leisure travel to the States will be lower this year but inbound tourism, from the US and Europe/Asia, will see a boost with the weaker loonie.

These tourists will bring more $ with them and this is good news for (non-Calgary based) loads on NRT, FRA, LHR & AMS flights.

Walking through the terminal today seeing the departing visitors, and catching glimpse of these two big blue beauties taxing past each other this afternoon, made the airport feel more like Tokyo, Seoul or Amsterdam than prairie town Calgary.

People will be pleasantly surprised by June's #'s. The sky is not falling, at least not over McCall Field - wish I could say the same about downtown..

Ps. I really need to upgrade my iPhone 4S.

You misunderstand what he is saying.

He's walking around the terminal, seeing folks from all nationalities coming and going, looks out the window and sees both KLM and Korean. Sure doesn't strike you as a little city on the prairies.

I just watched Cathay Pacific Cargo and Cargolux depart within 20 minutes of each other this morning. That's a cool site, and even cooler when you know one is off to Hong Kong and the other Luxembourg. Two tenuous threads in the sky reaching outwards from our city with goods to both Europe and Asia.

I too want Westjet to join Skyteam, mostly so thaere is a serious competitor to Star and might put my but on WS seat rather than AC/UA.

Looks about right. YEG had a LF of 86.7% and YVR was 89.3% in June (pax numbers down at YVR as a result of VS pulliing out).

Air Transat to/from the UK didn't fare as well in June this year for Western Canada. YEG-LGW gone of course (loss of 324 pax only), YYC was down about 1,600 passengers and YVR was down about 240 pax.
