You said San Fran downsizing was the outlier but Dallas upsizing was the norm. Yet I just listed above half the league has downsized since 2000.

Creating higher demand while increasing luxury seating and ticket prices is very viable.


The NFL average attendance is always going to be around the same.

And the reason why MLS is going to see average attendance above 20 000 is because the move to downsized soccer specific stadiums increasing the atmosphere and making the league seem big league and not playing in 80% empty nfl size stadiums.

I hate and don't follow baseball at all but weren't people complaining about the ridiculous high prices at the new Yankees stadium? Also there has been complaints that the place is a library. Not sure people approve this new Yankee over the old one.

I do agree with what you said tough. Standards are high in North America for luxury seating much more than the soccer crazy fans in Europe. I am well aware that in order to upgrade the fan experience, you often have to downsize. Part of it is because there is no space or the stadium's configuration.

However if you look at new NFL stadiums built in the last 10 years(2005 or newer) or soon to be build:
-49ers: same capacity as the old one but expandable to more (opened in 2014)
-Vikings: same capacity as the old one but expandable to more (should open 2016)
-Colts: bigger capacity (opened 2008)
-Cards: 2 k smaller capacity but more expandable capacity (opened in 2006)
-Cowboys: bigger capacity by 20k and ridiculous 100k+ expandable (open in 2009)
-Giants/Jets: bigger capacity (opened in 2010)

No downsizing there, there is a trend towards more luxury and temporary seating which we both agree. However, new stadiums seek higher attendance than the old ones not less.

Not all of them. I just listed numerous examples to the contrary. Stadiums that were built smaller than their predecessor or downsized after being built.

And those ones u listed as expandable are only expanded for things like the super bowl. Not regular season.

To further compound the point. For the first time ever since the renovation the bc lions have artifcially reduced capacity by using the curtain system to closer the upper deck at bc place. This happened tonight.

The blue bombers only drew 25k this week after 26k last weekend. Building a 33k stadium may have been a tad too big. 30k wouldve increased ticket scarcity like in the east.

The tickets are just too expensive now. Doesn't look like the "lower capacity, raise prices" thing works that quickly. You need to fill the capacity with cheaper tickets before you can start to raise them.

^^^ it was a late arrivivng crowd. It has filled in nicely now. Lower bowl capacity is around 28,000

It remains to be seen if the Bombers stadium is too large. The team has a record of 45-81 the last 7 seasons with 2 playoff appearances and one season over .500 in that time span. To average 28,000 over those 7 years is somewhat remarkable. We will get a better idea of what typical crowds will be like once the Bombers have consecutive seasons above .500 and an actual Grey Cup victory. I think that would boost crowds to 31,000 per game.

BC only had 23,000 last night against the Riders. Attendance there usually picks up in the second half of the season so we will see what happens as the season progresses.

IGF is not too large.

If the Bombers were even .500 over the last 7 years I'm sure that most games would be sold out, or close to it. The WBB fanbase is becoming demoralized from year after year of sheer ineptitude. There are probably few if any places in Canada that can match the sheer amount of goodwill that fans here have for the local football team, but the Bombers have done almost everything possible to squander it.
