Still no word on what's happening with the (former) Southland SportChek? They're clearly subdividng it into two spaces, and adding a second entrance (towards Montana's).

The city is looking for a very high caliber plans for this area. They understand the importance of it. That doesn't mean they will get it right, but they are aware. You are going to see a some big hitters go after the project.

But the entire plan will be developed over the next couple of years, my guess is that any previous plans are merely suggestions at this point, but I know that a even a reduction of Dewdney to 2 lanes is up for debate.

It should prove interesting. The only problem is that the project is beginning as the economy is slowing down.

Should mean cheaper construction costs, no?

Why is this even up for debate?! It's a major artery right downtown.

Costco or Cosco?

So I was out for lunch and heard some guys talking about their company bidding on the job to build a new Costco "out by Emerald Park" The other person got all excited and said a new "Costco" would be great but would hate driving to Emerald park. Then the guy talking about bidding said he wasn't sure if it was a "Costco" or a "Cosco"...the company that makes baby strollers, etc.

Any updated rumblings on Costco or Cosco?

I think the latest rumors going around were Costco wanted to close their current location and build a newer, bigger location at the intersection of the #1 highway and the new Regina Bypass. This could lend some legitimacy to that rumor.

First of all Cosco does not have retail stores. Secondly Costco is not closing the UP Drive location. They own it and just spent a fortune on a new roof, parking lot, landscaping and gas station. If anything, they will build a second location that will be in the NW or West. Saskatoon's second location was just announced.

There will be ton a development between Regina and EP in the next few years closing tied to the #1 and Bypass interchange locations.

Harvard is building Horizon's out there and had been hoping to secure Target. Not sure who their anchor will be now.

I also heard from my friend (who works for Costco) that they are planning to close the existing location and move out to Tower Rd/#1.

Obviously they just put a bunch of money into their existing location, but it's possible they intend to keep it and lease it out.

So they are moving to Horizons?

It's not downtown. And because a livable walkable neighbourhood doesn't require cars going 65 down it, and that's what they're aiming for, not a truck route.

Costco will be closing that location.

A new Costco will end up in one of the two new east retail developments. There's no way in hell it would end up in Horizons. They want East Regina. Full stop.

Sorry I meant Aurora. I guess Horizons will be in Westerra. Where is the other east development?

The Bay has replaced their old 70's signage with their new logo style.

Totally agree.

A nice city is preferable to a city where the commute is 5 minutes shorter.

There's not a lot to see. Lots of tarps and trailers.

Fortuna Risorante #yqr served their last meal on June 30. 2nd closure in two weeks.
What was the other restaurant that closed?
