I like Burbank. I feel, on the whole, he was good for the city and handled a great deal of its problems well. But I do believe he's lost control in the last year or so and that's why I'm not too upset over his resignation. What gets me is more politicking by Ralph and I think it shows just how desperate he is - he knows he's vulnerable. Maybe he should think of just stepping back and not running for a third term.

Every mayor travels to national conferences and things like that. Becker has traveled far less than Rocky did when he was mayor.

It appears that they are already asking for a conditional design review approval from the city. It will be for the extra height. I will be sure to write the city and let them know that I support the conditional design approval

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Regent Street Hotel is a proposed 330 foot tower with 20 full stories topped by a roof deck and lounge. The top of the 20th floor will be 298 feet; the top of the enclosed portion of the roof deck lounge will be 311.5 feet. The final 18.5 feet is reserved for potential mechanical needs. The program includes 3 stories of public, meeting and amenity space, 40,490 SF in total. Above the public space and amenities are 9 floors of hotel guestrooms, 105,660 SF total, with 190 guestrooms. Above the hotel are 8 levels of condos with 93,920 SF of built space and 36 dwelling units. The roof deck has 4,000 SF in enclosed space, 6,290 SF in deck and open space, and 1,450 SF in mechanical space. The proposed project has 251,810 SF total above grade. The project will lease 133 parking stalls from surrounding parking garages for the hotel component. Each dwelling unit will have 1 parking spot on site below grade.

With the progress this is making, I give it a 90% chance of success. The 10% is the Eat-A-Burger owner possibly mucking it up.

151 is still in progress. They recently renewed their conditional use permit for the height and design of the building. This is good for 1 year.

I think Boyer is just waiting for a few things to happen first before construction starts. With how things are going in the City though, I do think that a ground breaking will happen before the end of Q1 2016.

I am hopeful that Ken (AUC) is able to finalize everything and he is able to start construction later this year.

I was wondering if Boyer was waiting until the apartment/condos being built on 2nd East were further along before starting on 151. Seems like it would be a bit crowded in there and the ground maybe a bit unstable with two pits being dug at once.

And I love this proposal from the RDA. Speaking of the RDA, I wonder also what happens to the La Porte blunder on State Street. When they default on their extension later this year, what happens? Does the RDA give it to another developer to finish the site? Finish it themselves? I'm very curious on that one. Anyone know what the protocol will be?

That final picture of the Regent Hotel, the full color rendering, is 🞵🞵🞵🞵! I guess this location is technically mid-block but it's right on the corner of Regent so I don't see any reason that the extra height shouldn't be approved. Plus, I don't think the RDA would sell this developer the land if they didn't think that commission would approve the extra height.

So who/what in City Hall would be the best for emailing our approval and whole-hearted enthusiasm for this project? It'd be nice to have an actually read account to send comments to that won't just be ignored... Lovin' this project and hoping for the best!

Becker is a peace maker too. He's presided over one of the most cooperative moments in the city between the city, chamber of commerce, and the LDS Church. The city's elites and philanthropists also like him and seem to come to bat more with him as mayor. His good relations at the national level have helped us sneak in and grab some more grant money too.

He's also the mayor who cleared the pipes and moved things forward that have been waiting for decades like the Performing Arts Center and the new SLC Int. Airport.

He was a godsend after Mayor Anderson and even if he isn't re-elected he did what was necessary to move our city forward. How much do we need a mayor like him as we move forward from here, that's debatable...

There's still a lot we can do towards improving cycling in slc...

Ha, I was just going to ask the same question. What concerns me is that a rescue developer wouldn't finish the front on the REX theater as was originally intended.

Yeah, my hope would be that all parts of the project, including the renderings, schematics, blue prints, contracts, etc., would become property of the RDA and they could continue where La Porte has left it, and/or change where La Porte fumbled.

But I don't know much about these kind of things. Anyone? Anyone?

LOL, Somebody needs to give S.P. some lovin. Seriously though, this Hotel is such a great design for that area. It's the perfect nod of respect to the Monaco, Walker and First Security Towers, era designs that we all appreciate. Yet, it's updated historic without looking faux cheap. What a great book end for Regent. Now, if we can just get them to rethink that Walker parking garage façade. Orlando or any of you who deal with this type of challenge, would it be feasible to design and construct a shallow layer of apartments for the perimeter of that Walker Garage?

My office overlooks the walker building and garage and the garage itself is TREMENDOUSLY under utilized as is the mega garage behind the promise valley playhouse. Becker's two terms in office have been pretty uneventful. I don't think he's rocked the boat - but I think his list of accomplishments are pretty limited. The city is experiencing a great deal of growth, but to pretend that was Becker ignores the fact the growth was starting well before he took office. Moreover, crime has ticked up under his watch and his handling of the prison, where I think he's tried to negotiate secret backroom deals with the legislature, have only soured me on his leadership. Like I said, I think he's a good ambassador to the city but on the whole, I think it's time for him to step aside and the city get some new ideas and leadership. I won't be voting for him again (two-time voter here, even voted for Becker in the primary back in 2007 - so, three-time voter!) and am hopeful Salt Lake is finally wising up enough to vote him out.

This angle reminds me of looking north down Fremont street in S.F., albeit on a much smaller scale.
And have you noticed that most buildings on the south end of downtown have the width facing east-west, and on the north end, it's north-south.

Ugh that's literally a block down the street from where I used to live. That's the church I went to for over 10 years until I was 15 and decided to stop going. Makes me envious.

My first reaction to this image was: That's a beautiful building! Is that in Denver? Too bad Salt Lake can't have buildings like that.
