Isaac, I seem to remember them saying at the beginning stage that this stretch would have street side dining. Is that still the case?

I hope that these two hotels have some impact on the Gateway recovery.

Speaking of which, have any of you seen this:

http://mysteryescaperoom.com/

It's just opening at the Gateway, and frankly, it looks pretty cool. I know these kind of things have been a hit in larger cities, so I hope it does well here. I think this is the right direction for the Gateway. It can take part in the synergy created by the movie theatre, the planetarium, and the Children's Museum.

From what I've seen only the Hyatt will have ground floor retail. If the Marriott has a restaurant it will most likely be part of the hotel itself, though still be on the ground floor and open to the public.

Yes, I was just wanting to confirm that the restaurant would also have a street presence, as was originally announced.

Post on the Boutique Hotel that will replace the Eat-A-Burger site, now we just need to get rid of Carl's Junior.

I'll say WOW!!! Love the classy style and materials. That's exactly what that corner needs, with the advent of a new Regent St. and EPAC.

This is a beautiful thing.
How many of us have said that something JUST LIKE this would be the shit on that spot.
Cool rendering.
Slim, semi-tall, large ground floor ceilings, condos on top, etc.
And not a ton of rooms, but just about right to complement the Hotel Monaco for those seeking a boutique type hotel.
Here's hoping that the normal red tape doesn't get too sticky.
A next spring start would be awesome, like they're predicting.
And yes, now we just need to kill Carl's Jr....or Carl Jr's....or the little fudge burger who couldn't.

IF this gets built, it'll put a lot of pressure on the Carl Jr's site.

The hotel and location are awesome! Someone should dig up and replant the lilac bush growing next to eat a burger; it's the only thing of value there and on the Carl's Jr. site.

On the subject of additional construction and developments coming to Salt Lake:

http://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2607216-155/council-signs-off-on-two-offices
Council signs off on two offices for the DA

Quote:
After years of being a renter, the Salt Lake County district attorney's office is going to have its own offices.

Two exactly — a main headquarters at 465 S. Main St. in Salt Lake City, directly west of the Matheson Courthouse, and a second in West Jordan, near a 3rd District courthouse and much closer to the population boom that's coming to the Salt Lake Valley's southwest quadrant.

Projected cost: $65.4 million.

That's a whole lot more than the $33 million originally envisioned in 2009 for a single DA building in downtown Salt Lake City. It's even considerably higher than a revised 2013 figure of $55.4 million, which made some council members almost apoplectic.
Quote:
Consultant David Hart said the project will be funded with revenue from a bond approved when the first building was pegged at $33 million, plus an estimated $9 million from selling the land at 600 S. State where that building was supposed to be built.

The remaining $20 million is likely to come from a bond to be approved later by the council.

A "request for qualifications" will go out Wednesday seeking a contractor, said Megan Hillyard, associate director of administrative services. A similar request for an architect will follow in about six weeks. The two then will work together on the sites.
A 110,000-square foot building at 465 S. Main St. with 280 parking stalls

With the size of the lot, this should get us closer to 10 stories I think.

This too should start construction next year.

Between this, Eat-A-Burger Hotel, AUC, CCH, 151, depot district buildings and the hotel by the former Shilo, we should have a nice "Sea of Cranes" in Downtown SLC in 2016.

Not to segway to much to a previous topic but this should help with the thought of SLC being a "Boom Town"

That will be nice to get some development going on on that part of main... That block is a dreadfully boarding strip of main.

I wonder what is going on with the air center... It seems like he said there would be an announcement soon. Hopefully it didn't fall apart... I really liked that project...

With the Shilo inn renovated, neff floral gone, and the prospect of eat-a-burger going... I'm becoming a much happier person.... Now if we could just get a nice upscale movie theater 😜
