The Stampede will always be in their current location, so it's the lands around the grounds that will develop. The Stampede also has plans for expansion as some of the venues on site are small and outdated. In another decade the area should look completely different.

You gotta think that eventually those lands will be too valuable to not consider moving the stampede somewhere else. The facilities would be easy to rebuild wouldnt they.

Logic defies the Stampede Board.

Where else would they go? The Stampede grounds are huge, there aren't many places they could go aside from the suburbs.

Exactly. The Stampede's success hinges on a central location. They could make better use of their property but, the same can be said for all the surrounding property held in private hands.

Well, the Oktoberfest grounds are still there in central Munich as well. They're not used much other than for a few weeks in the fall I suppose.

I'm not very familiar with Munich so I had to go look it up, but comparing them side by side, it looks like you could fit three or four of those Oktoberfest Grounds in the same area as the Stampede Grounds.

Sure, but it's still a big chunk of land right in the middle of a Montreal-sized metro.

The CNE board has been actively pursuing new revenue generating streams but, it still reminds me a lot of the Stampede grounds.

Great reply and nicely executed!

Back to the pics...........those new Edmonton shots are much appreciated.

I wonder if the new Hotel X will bring a lot more revenue to the CNE grounds. Obviously it will be a hot spot for people going to the numerous trade shows and conventions. It's a shame though the hotel looks like some Brutalist monster meets glass condo.

Once the East Village is built out, the next logical direction for development is the Stampede grounds (or at least getting close). The land must be worth lots now, but in 20 years when dt Calgary is more densely populated, demand for more high density development in the core of the city will make those grounds worth billions. It might be in the suburbs, but imagine the kind of fairgrounds that could fund.

I just hate it when Hitler shows up here. Or anywhere for that matter.

You need to source the image for the post to not be removed. Posting an image of Lubbock, Texas without explaining how it relates to Canadian skylines is also off-topic.

That land is already super valuable and they are planning on overhauling the whole thing. Seriously, I would be amazed if the Stampede ever left their grounds, they are well served by transit, right beside 17th Ave, road connections aren't terrible, and they've been in the same spot for over 100 years now. The area immediately adjacent to the Stampede will build out, and hopefully the Stampede sees an opportunity to add services for the people in that area other than parking. Don't forget that the Stampede gets over 1.2 million admissions every year, they easily generate enough revenue to get by on just the 10 days a year.
