To stop people from parking on the square, they could allow some of the restaurants to set up satellite patios in the warmer months, like they do in Europe, then you know for sure that cars will never park there. But for this to work, you need to have lots of clientele to fill up the existing patios first.

Here is a nice example from Warsaw, notice how there are streets between the patios and the restaurants, which the servers have to cross, which only have local traffic on them.

Another idea is to build a funky fountain in the middle of the square, lit up in the evenings. That could also stop cars from parking there.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, there are loads of ideas, the people working for city of Ottawa and OSEG simply need to tap into their imaginations.

One more piece of news for Lansdowne. On my way to the Fury game last Saturday, I was surprised to see that the double decker city tour busses with the open air 2nd levels, were looping through Lansdowne on their way to Dows Lake using the parkway. Anyone know if these are hop on-hop off tours? That would definitely be a plus for Lansdowne to have a hop-on hop off tour bus stop on site.

The question is more than driving versus transit versus walking or biking.

The question should also be whether transportation is preventing people from going to Lansdowne.

In my case, I would say yes, to a degree.

I live south of Lansdowne as well and from where I live, it should be easy to use transit, but it isn't. I have tried it, and it is frustrating and unreliable. I would like to go to Lansdowne more often but that means driving and there can be congestion on Bank Street going south from Lansdowne.

Walking is not an option, it is too far. Biking is not an option, the direct route on Bank Street is not safe. The indirect route using bike trails takes you far out of your way and you still face some awkward sections where you are competing with a lot of traffic.

I am also a Red Black season holder and they made transit so attractive, that I switched to using transit from the old days of the Renegades, when I always drove.

So, are our limited transportation options actually reducing the potential success of Lansdowne? I can't answer that but the current situation does limit my desire to go there except on game days.

I was there yesterday night for a movie, and didn't see any cars parked in Aberdeen Square. There were several prominent no parking signs up in there.

You've hit the nail on the head as this is our exact situation too. We take transit or bike on game days, but I've been doored once on Bank and almost a second time. Any other biking option has us going to Bronson, not ideal

Try coming from Bank and Heron. There isn't many options going that way.

Regardless of the difficulty getting to Lansdowne, there should be no parking on the square. There are ample spots underground (unless there is a Red Blacks/Fury game). OSEG should be allowing the city to ticket and tow, and the city should as soon as it has permission ticket and tow. Obviously the parking lot fills up, but I doubt that is a daily occurance. And according to the original article it is people who 'just going really quick to get something' who were parking there.

Once the city creates better transit access to Lansdowne with good connection to the transitway either at bank or billings Im sure that this will become a thing of the past. Obviously that would require a major reconstruction and reorganization of Bank st but if there is enough of a demand it may happen.

Heck, simply improving transit service in the evening to match mid-day levels which is what the city is doing next month, will make a difference.

Any improvement is an improvement, but I want to see the frequency to reach 10 minute levels. This is when you don't have to worry about schedules. Also, with the traffic issues on Bank, we need a better effort to deal with bus bunching. Be in a position to throw an extra bus on the route when things get badly out of whack. This is why it took me at least 1 hour to get from Greenboro to Lansdowne.

Think about trying to come from south of Bank and Hunt Club on a bike. Yes, they built that nice bike trail along Sawmill Creek but it takes you over to Hogs Back. How do you get to Lansdowne from there without facing some awful traffic? And then there is the totally bike unfriendly conditions at the end of the bike trail at Hunt Club.

A few times that I went down Bank Street by car, the road can be quite congested. At times, it took me a long time just to arrive to St. Matthew's church and Southminster church. It is always worse in the weekend, when many people want to see a game in TD stadium. Since I do not drive a car and I have a lot of groceries, I would take a taxi. Sometimes, a taxi would cost $12 to $15 depending, where I go to.

At least the Sawmill Creek trail doesn't end in the bushes anymore at Walkley Station. But really, I look forward to the decade when finally they double track the rail line across Hunt Club Road and with it will come safe trails across a nightmare location.
