There must be a social media site somewhere that expectant mothers check when selecting a flight. If not, there is probably a start-up that will launch such a site.

New hotel for the airport?

Westin Calgary Airport and The Westin Edmonton Gateway Announced for 2017
http://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article83512.html

Quote:
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) today announced the signings of two new build properties: The Westin Calgary Airport, owned by PAL Hospitality Ltd., and The Westin Edmonton Gateway, owned by Neelam Investments Ltd. With these new signings, Starwood will further strengthen its footprint across Canada, while significantly bolstering its upper-upscale presence in Alberta.

With 250 guestrooms, The Westin Calgary Airport will be located directly on Calgary International Airport property. The five-story hotel will feature a Westin Club Lounge, 30,000 square feet of meeting space, restaurant and lounge.

Nice. I wonder where exactly on the field it will be.

I'm assuming this announcement pertains to the hotel property that has been built as part of the new International Terminal? As far as I know, to date no official announcement has been made about the branding of the hotel and the building looks to be about five stories. Given the press release's mention of "on Calgary International Airport property" my guess is that this is the official announcement that the new hotel at the terminal will be a Westin....

The new hotel above the terminal has already been announced as a Delta Hotel, I believe it is +/- 10 floors. I don't think we know the fate of the current existing Delta at this time.

This new Westin is a totally different deal. Interesting that it will have 30,000 square feet of meeting space - that is huge for an airport hotel. The Hyatt Regency downtown has 33,000.

Everyone I spoke to about the story didn't know we had a non-stop flight to Tokyo. Learning about the flight didn't send them to aircanada.com to book their Japanese Vacation but it does inform them of the possibility. Most Calgarians probably don't know about half of the international destinations served by non-stop flights at YYC, free advertising doesn't hurt.

Interesting development about a Westin at YYC. Is there any chance they are going to renovate the old Delta property and use it?

Was wondering the same thing. I can't remember if we've heard who will operate it after the Delta moves out. Does it have the space for 250 rooms?

The article does say it's a new build property so I would say not taking over the current Delta.

Any new major downtown hotel developments on the horizon? It's been awhile since a major one was built.

Just saw YEG and YMM's April numbers.... Let's hope we don't see anything like that!

YYC definitely punches above it's weight!

I understand this is a fun chart and all......but.....I'm a stickler for accuracy and precision.....so....

First of all , there is no such aircraft as a B774. I know you meant B747, but that's why people proof read before posting.
Second, why on earth is London, Ontario, included in this analysis ?
Third, as already mentioned, BA's 767s carry only 189 seats and YVR-LHR on AC is 458 seats.

So, if we remove the numbers for YXU (which have nothing to do with the other flights), and correct AC/BA seats, that lowers YYC's numbers to 1010 and increases YVR's to 1148.

Also, as Johnnie Aussie says a comparison for saturday service only is not accurate. A weekly comparison paints the whole picture, and the gap widens even more between YVR and YYC, as AC852, the second flight from YYC to LHR only operates 4 times weekly, TS on YYC-LGW is only 2 weekly for now (and originates in YVR btw), whereas YVR-LGW is 5 weekly. Not to mention that BA increases LHR-YVR during the summer to 12 weekly.

With a little slump in Alberta flying, I hope they can pull it off without talking too much of a hit.
Their initial calls are kind of annoying. When they used to fly to YOW it was always....."Ottawa approach, good evening, this is Kestrel 87K, Boeing seven five seven two hundred, with information Foxtrot, inbound THURO 8 arrival for runway 25, descending altitude 8000, reducing to 250 kts."

And there goes my guy through the LOC.....

yes, we know mate, this isn't Africa, i have your f/p info......!

I know what you are, where you are, at what altitude you were cleared to and at what speed.....quit blabbering on and on !

Plus they used to always reduce to less than 200 kts 20-25 miles out. Again, Kind of annoying ! I'll take a WS 767 over a Thomas Cook 757 anyday !

Oh my gawd, you found us on SSP.

Looking forward to you and cyeg66 having some good banter, and of course more ATC experience here is always great when the technical questions come up.

On another note, has anyone heard about progress on WS Encore and their planned building that was going to go in next to WestJet?

affirmative. The last few days it was operated by C-FIVX, C-FIVW, C-FNNU, C-FNNW and C-FNNQ, all five 458 seater birds.

All of the following see the high density B77Ws.

YUL-CDG
YUL-LHR
YVR-LHR
YVR-HKG
YYZ-YVR

btw folks,

Q1 traffic results (January-March) for most of Canada's big airports are in, and YUL has already overtaken YYC's passenger count this year. If this keeps up, YUL will regain 3rd spot in the country once again.

Here are some Q1 passenger numbers for Canada's airports.

YYZ - 9,377,880 (+7.1%) (impressive)

YVR - 4,614,267 (+6.0%) (will most likely hit 20 million this year for the first time if these numbers keep up !)

YUL - 3,667,515 (+4.1%) (not bad for socialist Quebec)

YYC - 3,615,580 (+1.1%)

YEG - 1,967,676 (-1.0%)

YOW - 1,182,767 (+1.1%)

YWG - 932,593 (+4.1%) (not surprising ! Who wants to be in Winterpeg in Jan, feb or march ? No one ! )

YQB (-1.8%) (first time i see negative growth in as long as I can remember)

YYJ - 383,502 (+5.7%)

YMM (Q1 plus April) - 379,376 (-9.4%) (April numbers down 15%)

Is this guy serious? It was a joke bud, and only snapshot on May 4th because that date overly exaggerated YYC relative to the others.

Yes I made had some typos and wrong seat counts but that was due to my 30 second research of seatguru.com, I guess I can apologize if this caused any stress for anyone.

Regarding including YXU - I think you totally missed the point of the joke here.

I'm with you all the way, and agree it rather annoying London ON was included, but even with your corrections the seats per million looks pretty good for Calgary.

Historically YUL does better during the spring, and YYC does better during the fall seasons. Both airports are about equal during the summer. Though that's historically speaking of course, with the current conditions who knows, I mean the NDPs can't screw up Alberta that bad right?

BTW welcome to the family, always wondered why you weren't on here.

Indeed. YYC does have an enviable transatlantic network compared to similar sized cities south of the border. One can say the same thing about other Canadian cities such as YHZ, YYT and now YEG.

Isn't B774 short for B777-400 series?

Admittedly, I'm an air newb so happy to be corrected.
