I wish a tower proposal would be made of the parking lot across from Crave (the old Hudson's Bay parkade lot). I would really fill up the Victoria Avenue Strip. Ps. Great taste in profile pics, Stormer .

Would really be a great spot for an Alt hotel/condo mixed-use building, since Alt's model is that they don't have a bunch of extra services in their hotel, but rather rely on the surrounding area... restaurants and bars all around, casino just down the street, dry-cleaning services nearby, massage/spa in Hotel Sask... central location... Dare to dream.

I believe it is only half video board. The side pointing directly at the Broad/Vic intersection is video - the one on the other side pointing west appears to only be plywood (for now anyway). Direct flashing light shouldn't hit the hotel but they will definately get reflected glare and flashing.

I am so torn on this. I voted no, but I wanted the U-Pass to succeed. My problem with it is allowing students that live in the city (albeit within a certain radius of the university) to opt out. Either we all pay or we don't pay.

I'm sure it will improve transit, but I'm pissed that I have to pay $90 more a year just because of where I live in the city.

I fully agree and was thinking and hoping for the same thing! Hopefully either way something mixed use will fill that big unused section as the Victoria strip needs some retail and entertainment/nightlife options in that area ON Victoria Avenue especially because of all the hotels nearby.

I didn't know opting out was not an option unless you're from out of town or within 1 km from the university. The U of S allows anyone to opt out if they choose.

I wish the City would get serious about regulating these boards. Not outlawing them, but putting some parameters on them... lumens after certain times, proximity to residential or other sensitive areas, buildings, etc.

Many other cities regulate these. No reason Regina couldn't....but like many other issues in Regina, inertia is likely winning out.

While the current focus is on shorter-term issues, sources say the Pats are indeed seeking long-term facility improvements. The options include a major upgrade to the Brandt Centre or an entirely new downtown arena, likely on the old Canadian Pacific railyards.

That land was previously earmarked for a new football stadium, which is now being constructed at Evraz Place. The city has announced subsequent plans for a redevelopment of the railyards through the Regina Revitalization Initiative.

Mayor Michael Fougere was non-committal when asked if the vision for that property could include a new arena.

“That’s not been the public discussion,” Fougere told the Leader-Post’s Natascia Lypny. “But again that process is in the very early stages and we haven’t had any public consultation about what we’d like to see in that area and we’re committed to have substantial public consultations, visioning and get to know what people would like to see in there.”

Asked if the city would support a privately owned and operated arena, the mayor called it “premature.”

I know we've talked a lot about ALT's interest in Regina... What's the source of this? Not trying to be argumentative, just too lazy to go back through the history to find out if it was a rumour, or the company actually expressing interest, or something else.

I recall the discussion heating up with the prospect of SGI vacating their current tower (that opinion's obviously it in the cards).

I believe they ran a newspaper ad. It wasn't just idle rumour

Well, I believe it when they say: "where there's smoke, there's fire."

The old railyards (ideally) would be a fantastic location for a new arena; it would fit a hell of a lot better in there anyway --- as opposed to a football stadium. Plus, that would greatly enhance the bar strip along Dewdney as well.

We'll see what happens.

From an aesthetic perspective, that is a dismal choice for a board like that. Sure owners of Rooftop are thrilled.

I am extremely pleased with what they have designed. They have totally reinvented themselves and this waterpark is going to be a huge draw for guests. Also cool that the green slide is more see-through as the two colour slide isn't.

On a side note, it would be nice to see the Best Western Seven Oaks Inn to renovate their waterpark and waterslide as well. Lots of room for improvement and upgrades.
