Speaking of "full on winter still in the east".........

Yeah, and that's the norm - not just because of this cold snap. As Acajack noted a page or two ago, both French Canadians and Newfoundlanders (and, presumably Maritimers) have folk names for storms around St. Patrick's Day.

It's supposed to be the last one... but it's normal enough that people expect a big snowstorm here after March 17 every year. And then it warms up.

Yesterday's high of -11.7 degrees in St. John's was the coldest day in the month of March in 12 years. Slightly warmer today, but still a little brisk. Tomorrows temperatures are getting closer to normal, but of course that's probably only because a snowstorm is on its tail.

Is it June yet?

Bit of a break from the sun, currently cloudy/misty and 5. Forecast of 10. Monday we are supposed to get up to 12, and then between 3-6 for the rest of the week.

15 now as of 12 noon, exceeding today's forecasted high of 14!

The snowmelt mess over the last week hasn't been as bad as I expected, probably because this winter didn't see quite as much snow as the previous two winters. The January thaw also helped.

Environment Canada warning for Moncton:
It seems like the Maritimes have been really unlucky this year. The first half of winter was more or less normal but then the second half has been one of the worst in many decades.

It seems like the cold weather pattern shifted from Central Canada farther east, so Ontario and Quebec got the worst of it in February and now Newfoundland is getting it and Central Canada is above normal. But the Maritimes have been affected the whole time.

Meanwhile, in Western Canada, conditions are freakishly above normal.

Higher than normal, but not necessarily freakish for Calgary. There have been warmer Months of March and February than this year, but they tend to be every 5 years or so.
March and February of 2009 for example was warmer than March and Feb of this year.

What? Based on one extremely above normal season? Regina's high for That date would be 0c Edmonton would be 2c, and calgary would be 4c. Not exactly grass greening weather, lol. BC is a totally different story. Meanwhile the east's highs for that date would be 6c for Windsor, 5c for Toronto. So really, the east is traditionally warmer than the west outside of BC. You have it backwards actually, lol.

It was supposed to rain all day today.

Instead, it turned out to be +17 and partly sunny. I haven't seen a drop of rain. I'll take it!

The rain was VERY necessary, thankfully it all fell between 10pm last night and 8am this morning!
