Life in a snow belt:

This is what Lake Huron does to you when you're an hour away from it. It's melting, but it'll be a while before it's gone.

I actually measured the snow depth in a nice flat park near my home in Ottawa. The area is in full sun all day, no drifting. Sitting at 13 inches. It was probably two feet before the melt earlier this week.

Warm enough in Edmonton that they've had to push some the Crashed Ice events later into the evening, and are covering up the portions of the track that are in direct sunlight.

I was looking at houses in Orillia Ontario for fun, and of course had to compare the climate to where I am now. I'd always figured that things were cold and barren up north (never mind Ottawa), but the climate sections on the Wikipedia pages for Stratford and Orillia look mostly the same, save for one big difference: annual snowfall.

Stratford: 218.5 cm
Orillia: 292.6 cm

They get walloped there. But one degree difference in average high isn't really anything to cry about. Having said that, the average lows up in Muskoka get a lot lower for December, January and February.

Orillia is a cute town with a good stock of affordable Victorian houses. It's minutes from amenities in Barrie, and only 130 km or so from Toronto.

Makes you think. Well, as an independent worker with a home office, it makes me think, anyway.

It's safe to call it now as it's starting to get colder.

Today was our coldest day of the winter with a high of -11C. We had one other -10C, just a few days ago. Beyond that there was an -8.8C weeks ago, earlier in the winter.

And tonight could be our coldest temperature of the winter. It's already -14C and our coldest temperature thus far is -15.7C, which was also just the other day. In March.

Gaahhh... the March from hell. It's not supposed to be much better tomorrow and I actually have to go out in it to a few protests. Boo.

I would imagine that the 292 cm in Orillia would stick around a lot longer as the March/April temps in Stratford would be quite a bit higher then Orillia. I read somewhere that Wiarton, Ontario is one of the snowiest places in Ontario.

I suspect Edmonton is 3-5 degrees warmer at night in the summer.

All of this warm weather in Calgary can only mean one thing:
Winter in June as punishment.

17.1 as of 4 pm according to EC Could definitely get to 18 yet! This is the warmest day of the month so far, though tomorrow is set to be warmer, but not the warmest day of the winter yet. January 25 still holds that title at 17.2. Getting close!

Several places in BC are already averaging highs between 14 and 15 degrees for the month.

Today is sunny and 12 in Marugame, Japan, finally (feels great)! You lucky bastards back home in Van have had this for almost 2 months now!

It's a cold one.

As of 9:45 a.m. NT:

But there is salvation on the horizon. The forecast is still below seasonal and below freeing, but not obscenely so.

Got to +18°C in Southern Sask yesterday..
..should be another beautiful sunny weekend again. It got down to a minimum low remaining still in the + double digits last night, in Maple Creek, SK.. should be back up to high teens(if not twenties) again today..

Looks like Saskatchewan yesterday was the first non-maritime Province to have temperature across the entire land area above freezing for the first time in 2015! I love trivia like that
