I know that there was some discussion about taller buildings constructed out of wood. Here's a cool article about groups that are doing just that: http://curbed.com/archives/2015/03/03/the-history-of-wooden-skyscrapers.php

Also, keep in mind that it isn't zoning regulations that may limit the construction of taller wood buildings. It is building code regulations. Most cities follow the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Fire Code (IRC). This is where you will find the bulk of regulations against taller wooden structures.

Is it me, or does the right (north) side of the building look like broken windows/and cobwebs?
I'll admit I never took those Andy Warhol architecture classes...Damnit!
Other than the rendering oddity, I like the diversity of the materials used, and the non-status quo placement of.....things.
And another thing...
I'll kinda miss the homeless thug atmosphere that gentrification will inevitably
nudge to another area. (It's complicated, um..I'll just leave it at that).

My mom died of breast and lung cancer as a non-smoker as well. Growing up in St. George, she was exposed to the radiation from the nuclear bomb testing during the 1950's.

The project manager from Garbett Homes told me that the final design has changed a bit, but this rendering is the most current they have to share.

Love the overall look, but I imagine the first thing they've edited out are those asymmetrical bars at the balconies.

Anyone know what's up with the arched metal on the north side of 111? Walked past this morning, it looked like they were running some very thick steel cables through the pipes arched on the side of the building. Coworker and I were trying to figure it out...
Looks like it's to lift something very, very heavy.

those metal 'arches' look like some sort of conduit or piping. It's strange that they would be installing that sort of thing now, but maybe it's for construction activities. I doubt those will stay curved for long.

151 units and 6 stories, that will add some nice density to the neighborhood. Eyes on the street is the key to safer neighborhoods, and the more people living in the area = more eyes on the street.
