Crossed fingers that the summer of 2015 at YVR will be akin to 1958.
Don't count on it. Living in BC all my life I have noticed a certain anecdotal trend. This trend seems to correlate cooler winters with Warmer summers and Warmer winters with cooler summers.

I don't expect much to come of this summer in terms of insane heat.

Awesome start to March. First low of the month is -17.3C.

We also haven't had a positive temperature since January 19th.

I am going to assuming CBC is right and we finished the month at with a avg temperature of -15.0C. Not only we break the record for all-time coldest February by 0.5C (people don't realize how insane this is) but it is the coldest month overall since January 2004 (avg of -15.1C). Those are also the 2 coldest months I have ever experienced.

This combination of January-February is something else though (colder than 2004). I have a hard believing how frozen everything is.

The 2015 Spring Outlook...

and our positively Vancouver-esque forecast with a Calgary twist (no precip. and most lows below freezing)...

Looking at those images Chad, it looks like spring flooding followed by forest fires in BC. Normal for the prairies and Bitching in Ontario and the rest of the east.

Interesting to note as well, Alberta's wild fire crews are already being deployed.

I doubt there will be flooding unless we get big rain storms. The snow pack in the mountains is way too low

That's like a typical Ottawa February.

It cleared up yesterday late afternoon not too long after I made my last post (I had mentioned that it was getting cloudier at the time of writing), but it was still a little cold and breezy.

Today, it's very sunny, but the temperature is currently sitting at -11 and the wind's at 26 km/h. Not as windy as yeasterday, but the windchill's still around -22.

This is the coldest February in recorded history. It was even colder at the airport, with a mean of -11c burr!

+9 9 10 12 13 14 Vancouver
+9 9 11 12 13 14 Osoyoos

I came here to post that. Truly a momentous day!

Also there's some lightning happening right now, which is kind of cool. It's rare for it to occur in the winter.

We may get very mild flooding earlier than normal if what little snowpack there is decides to melt all at once.

The much bigger concern I would foresee would be extremely low streamflow towards the end of summer.

Just got home and the air outside feels so fresh. Still a bit cold, but you can feel spring slowly creeping in

I saw the flashes too, but I heard a lot of transformers were blowing around the GTA so wasn't sure if it was that or lighting.

+1C in downtown Ottawa this morning at 9:00am with the heat island! (It was -3C at the airport). First time poking above 0 in quite some time.

The sun is quite powerful now. Monday was -3 according to the weather station at my work, yet there was snow melting everywhere because it was sunny.

No, not actually. 1934 was colder.

Ottawa has been keeping weather records much longer than most other cities, since the 1880s (whereas in most of Canada detailed weather records only go back to about 1940 or so). The weather data says that February 1934 was much colder than February 2015... by about 5C. It's likely this was the case throughout the Great Lakes basin, but I don't think any other cities had records in 1934, so the media has ignored this.
